WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences-from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you'll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world's most important challenges-striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

Join AMD's Network Technologies Solutions Group (NTSG) and play a key role in advancing next-generation hardware platforms that power high-performance networking and data center solutions. As a Principal Hardware System Engineer, you will work at the intersection of cutting-edge technologies such as PCIe Gen5+, DDR4/DDR5 memory, and high-speed Ethernet (100G+), helping bring innovative systems from concept through production and continuous improvement.

In this highly collaborative and hands-on environment, you'll partner with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, quality, and field engineering to ensure system performance, reliability, and scalability. This role offers the opportunity to work in a lab-driven, fast-paced setting where you'll influence real-world hardware deployments, troubleshoot complex system-level challenges, and contribute to future technology direction.

If you enjoy solving deep technical problems, working across teams, and shaping next-generation hardware systems, this is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

THE PERSON:

You are a hands-on problem solver who thrives in complex hardware environments and enjoys digging into system-level challenges. You take ownership of issues, drive them to resolution, and proactively look for ways to improve performance and reliability.

You are naturally collaborative and communicate effectively across both technical and non-technical teams. You're comfortable navigating ambiguity, prioritizing multiple efforts, and influencing outcomes across cross-functional stakeholders. A passion for continuous improvement and curiosity about emerging technologies will set you apart in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Lead hardware bring-up and ongoing support for next-generation systems involving PCIe, memory, and high-speed Ethernet subsystems
* Debug and resolve complex hardware issues, performing root cause analysis and driving corrective actions
* Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and field teams to ensure product success and customer satisfaction
* Identify and implement hardware improvements, including design optimizations, cost reductions, and component substitutions
* Develop and execute validation and test plans to ensure system performance and reliability
* Maintain and enhance technical documentation and support knowledge sharing across teams
* Partner with product management and business stakeholders to align hardware solutions with customer and market needs

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

* Experience with high-speed hardware systems including PCIe Gen5 or newer, DDR4/DDR5, and 100G+ Ethernet
* Strong hands-on debugging skills, including component-level troubleshooting, isolation, and repair
* Solid understanding of hardware design principles such as circuit design, PCB layout, and system integration
* Familiarity with hardware development and simulation tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence, SPICE)
* Experience with validation, testing, and system-level debugging methodologies
* Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python) for automation or analysis
* Experience working with cross-functional teams including suppliers, manufacturing, and quality
* Nice to have: exposure to FPGA, CPLD, ASIC, or high-speed digital design, and configuration management tools (e.g., Git, SVN)

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred
* Master's degree or higher desired
