Assistant General Manager - Transit Operations

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the General Manager- Transit Operations, independently perform a variety of functions, with a focus on day-to-day management of demand-responsive transit services, data analysis for the Transit Operations unit as a whole, and financial modeling and reporting. This will include, but not be limited to, financial accounting and budgeting, business modeling, long-range planning, and demand-responsive operations supervision including customer support. Offer general budget support for colleagues in the Fleet Services unit as needed. Manage data flow and integrity to support BruinAccess, UCLA Safe Ride, Bruin Bus, and charter services business metrics monitoring and reporting. Use a variety of software tools including Tripshot, Tableau, and Geotab to develop standard and ad hoc queries and reports, with focus on organizational goals. Provide financial oversight including monitoring revenues and expenses to meet performance goals and objectives, and to support maintenance of the Transit Operations vehicle and equipment portfolio. Serve as unit data administrator for Transit Operations, quality assurance management, and liaison between database users and IT personnel. Provide process training and technical training for a variety of individuals at different classification and skill levels. Ensure that demand-responsive operations meet required performance measures and applicable state and federal requirements, including through supervision of operations supervisors and front-line service personnel. Act as the primary interface between Transit Operations and the E&T Finance and Business Requirements Management units, Campus IT, and F&T on database issues, business cases, and related systems functionality. Provide support to the Strategy & Business Analysis unit and technical assistance on special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Transit Operations (Required)
  • 1. Transit Program Supervision - Demonstrated experience managing transit programs to achieve goals and objectives. (Required)
  • 2. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to analyze information and processes, define problems, and implement logical solutions. (Required)
  • 3. Financial & Budget Knowledge - Working knowledge of accounting, billing, budgeting, and cost/revenue management . (Required)
  • 4. Regulatory Knowledge - Familiarity with California Vehicle Code and DOT regulations. (Preferred)
  • 5. Organizational & Multitasking Ability - Proven capacity to prioritize and complete assignments under pressure and changing conditions. (Required)
  • 6. Customer Service Excellence - Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service and build positive client relationships. (Required)
  • 7. Interpersonal & Teamwork Skills - Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders. (Required)
  • 8. Leadership & Supervision - Experience in staff supervision, delegation, motivation, and fostering productive work environments. (Required)

  • 10. Technology Proficiency - Skilled in Microsoft Office, AVL systems, and tech-based transit tools. (Required)
  • 11. Training & Compliance - Ability to train staff in safety procedures, fueling, charging, and special equipment use. (Required)
  • 12. Adaptability & Reliability - Capacity to work independently, make sound decisions, work extended/on-call hours, and maintain punctuality. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or relevant experience (Preferred)
  • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
