CompanyFederal Reserve Bank of Kansas City The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a media relations specialist to coordinate and support the Bank's engagement with the news media and other external audiences, and work as part of a team across four offices to identify opportunities to promote the Bank and its impact across its seven-state region and nationally.
This position is within the Bank's Public Affairs, Outreach and Communications Division and reports to the assistant vice president/Public Information Officer.
  • Manages media relations activities and strategies for the organization and key leaders
  • Develops proactive media strategy and approaches and pitches bank research and other work to the news media
  • Develops press releases, media toolkits and other content
  • Seizes on timely opportunities to promote Bank content with both traditional and new media platforms
  • Builds relationships with local, national, and trade media
  • Serves as point of contact for members of the news media
  • Involved in crisis communication responses, develops crisis communication materials and preparation documents.
  • Develops and executes key public relations campaigns for the Bank, including influencer and thought leader marketing efforts
  • Builds relationships with key internal leaders to promote thought leadership
  • Supports the Bank's speakers program and identifies appropriate speaking opportunities for senior leaders
  • Writes content for Bank leaders and provides media coaching for executives and other Bank subject matter experts
  • Collaborates to public and community outreach efforts
  • Uses software tools to track and monitor Bank media mentions
  • Takes on special projects that are often highly visible and sensitive in nature.
  • Engages with Federal Reserve System colleagues to develop strategies to address common media relations issues.
  • Familiar with AI tools, specifically within media monitoring software.

Qualifications

  • Six to 10-plus years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic communication and media engagement plans
  • Experience in a corporate communications or media relations environment
  • Ability to use media tracking tools and use information from metrics reports to make content recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent a mission-driven organization in public settings.
  • Proficient at translating complex topics for a general audience
  • Ability to interact effectively with colleagues and leaders throughout a complex organization
  • Ability to appropriately manage sensitive issues with tact and professionalism
  • A keen understanding of the external environment and current media landscape

  • Onsite, full-time with 5 days per month remote work flexibility
  • Location: Kansas City

Pay Range: The starting pay range for this position is $91,400.00 to $133,100.00 for the job level(s) required for this position. Final offers are determined by factors including the candidate's qualifications, internal alignment considerations, district assignment, and geographic location.
