Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Are you a practicing physical therapist looking to develop advanced knowledge and treatment skills in oncology rehabilitation?Memorial Sloan Kettering's Physical Therapy Oncology Residency Program is now accepting applications!

Our Physical Therapy Oncology Residency Program is an 18-month intensive program providing post-professional didactic and clinical training to physical therapists seeking to develop advanced clinical skills and knowledge in the treatment of individuals with oncologic diagnoses across the continuum of care. The program aims to prepare the resident to apply advanced knowledge, clinical skills, evidence-based practice and critical inquiry in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with cancer in both an acute care and outpatient setting.

Upon successful program completion, the resident will:

  • Demonstrate specialist level knowledge in oncologic physical therapy in a range of conditions and practice settings as outlined in the Oncology Description of Specialty Practice.

  • Demonstrate specialist level clinical skills in treating patients across all phases of the oncologic continuum of care including pre-treatment, active care, post-care and palliation.

  • Demonstrate advanced skills in critical inquiry and evidence-based practice to effectively and efficiently optimize patient care.

  • Serve as a consultant within a multidisciplinary team in both an acute care and outpatient setting demonstrating strong communication, collaboration, and specialist level clinical expertise.

  • Effectively deliver educational material to patients, family/caregivers, peers, interdisciplinary colleagues, and physical therapy students to advance knowledge related to oncology physical therapy practice.

Program Details:

  • 18-months (78 weeks) beginning mid 2026

  • Full-time program with 28 hours of clinical practice and 8-10 hours of didactic instruction per week

  • No tuition associated with residency experience

  • Stipend provided for patient care hours on a bi-weekly basis

Key Qualifications:

  • Graduated from an accredited program in physical therapy or equivalent through the Federations of State Boards of Physical Therapy by the start of the residency program [Doctor of Physical Therapy (tDPT or DPT) preferred]

  • 1 - 5 years of clinical experience preferred

  • New York State Physical Therapy Licensure required by the start of the residency program

  • Membership in APTA, including Oncology Academy

  • BCLS Certification
