Job Summary

As an IT Systems Engineer I at Dallas College, you will be a key player in implementing, maintaining, and supporting our IT infrastructure. You'll ensure our enterprise technology systems-including administrative, educational, and audio-visual technologies-are reliable, secure, and efficient. You will be responsible for ensuring our systems effectively meet the college's business and educational objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively.

  • Self-motivated and able to manage and prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Comfortable working in environments with audio-visual equipment and varying light conditions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree OR 5 years equivalent of experience in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • CompTIA A+ or CAPM certifications are preferred.

  • Official transcripts will be required.

  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure of Dallas College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and deploy hardware and software, including storage systems, networking devices, operating systems, and end-user devices.

  • Perform regular maintenance tasks to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of all IT systems.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and user guides.

  • Keep accurate records of system changes and maintenance activities.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues with minimal oversight.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to other IT staff and end-users.

  • Monitor system performance and capacity, making recommendations for improvements as needed.

  • Maintain and implement security measures to protect IT systems from cyber threats and unauthorized access.

  • Ensure compliance with all security policies and regulations.

  • Collaborate with various teams across the organization to understand requirements, configure, and test new IT solutions.

  • Research and evaluate innovative technologies to improve IT infrastructure and operations.

  • Evaluate hardware and software products to determine their suitability for the organization's needs.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Perform duties as assigned, maintaining all standards in accordance with Dallas College policies and procedures.

Additional Required Duties:

  • Dallas College professional development hours per academic year

    • All employees are required to complete a minimum of 19 hours

    • People leaders are required an additional 16 hours of leadership development.

  • Perform other duties not listed as assigned.
