Description

Brown and Caldwell (BC) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer, focused on thickening and dewatering, to join our Solids & Energy Practice. This position is a strategic hire to build our capacity to deliver and innovate for our clients. While you will have the opportunity to work on other projects and disciplines, this position assumes at least 50% of your time will be devoted to thickening and dewatering projects. This is part of an intentional effort to fast track the growth of thickening and dewatering specialists into the next generation of subject matter experts at BC. This will be accomplished by pairing you on strategic thickening and dewatering projects/pursuits with BC's subject matter experts.

In this new role, you will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior technical staff on thickening and dewatering projects across the country. The successful candidate will assist in growing BC's Solids specialty and lead teams to deliver exceptional service to our municipal and private-sector clients. In this role, you will support business development, lead execution of high-quality solutions, develop talent, and create and enforce standards to drive our technical differentiation from that of our competitors in the technical areas of thickening, dewatering, and conveyance of thickened sludge and dewatered cake.

Remote work from the continental U.S. is allowed; preferred location would be near one of our offices in the Western U.S.

What you will do:

Project Delivery Quality and Efficiency



  • Assist or lead studies or alternatives analyses for thickening and dewatering projects.
  • Preparing engineering drawings, calculations, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, and technical reports for thickening and dewatering projects.
  • Work with drafters and designers and coordinate with other disciplines to complete construction documents.
  • Manage design tasks as a process mechanical task lead on large projects or a design manager on small to medium sized projects with support from Brown and Caldwell's subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Occasional site visits during various project phases may include tasks such as equipment evaluation, process testing and troubleshooting, construction inspection and observations, and other types of fieldwork. These activities may require occasional travel to project sites that are not local to your home office.
  • Perform office services during construction on projects you designed, including submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and other construction-related office engineering work.
  • Check performance and/or conformity with design drawings and specifications through field inspection, equipment start-up, and process testing during the construction of your projects.


Client Development and Sales



  • Coordinate with area/regional business development partners to drive expansion of the funnel for solids separation projects and pursuits.
  • Help position and win solids separation pursuits, and in some cases (when designated by an SME) act as the sales/technical lead for a pursuit.


Knowledge and Technical Standards



  • Help createefficient, high-quality practice executionthroughdevelopmentand consistent applicationof national technical standardsincludingprocess and designguidelines, best practices,and tools.


Talent Development



  • Identify opportunities for solids separation technical staff to grow, experience, and "advance" in the practice.
  • Support Practice Leadership in development oftechnicaltraining and mentoring programwithin the specialty.
  • Mentor less experienced junior-and entry-level engineers.


BC Brand and Industry Leadership



  • Present at local, regional, and/or national conferences on thickening and dewatering topics.
  • Serve on local or national committees for advancement of best practices in thickening and dewatering.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • B.S. degree in Civil, Chemical, Sanitary, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of similar experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, design and construction of thickening and/or dewatering projects.
  • Task design lead experience.
  • Experience designing thickening and dewatering projects and preparing construction documents including drawings, P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, technical memoranda, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and prepare written reports and documents.
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.
  • Strong project or task management skills.
  • Successful marketing, proposal writing, proposal management, and public presentations experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • M.S. degree in Civil, Chemical, Sanitary, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • 6 to 10 years of increasing responsibility in related experience.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $106,000 - $145,000

Location B: $117,000 - $160,000

Location C: $128,000 - $174,000
