| Primary Purpose of Position |
Process time and leave reporting for all leave-earning employees via the University's electronic time and leave reporting system. Perform analytical work related to leave including leave payouts and reconciliation of recorded leave balances. Set up similarly functioning voluntary/miscellaneous deductions, garnishments, child support, and tax levies as required via payroll. This position collaborates on an ongoing basis with HR Benefits, Financial Systems Support,
ITS, campus departments, and external vendors. Review the work of others on the team to ensure 100% accuracy. Be competent to run the monthly and semimonthly payroll as needed, either in segments or in its entirety. |

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and one year of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
| Essential Job Duties |
The Payroll Technician provides factual or procedural information by using tools like Kronos and Banner (e.g., about the origination of a leave,
ACH deposits, deduction payment status and research).
- Prepare accurate information and explanations based on policy guidelines (Federal and State laws, HR employment policies and procedures).
- Refer to appropriate resources to explain policies and procedures (e.g., pay processes, pay dates, federal and state withholding, miscellaneous deductions withheld, direct deposit signup).
- Assist employees and supervisors with completion of time sheets and recommend implementation procedural changes to improve quality of service.
- Independently resolve customer problems by reliance on extensive program knowledge, analytical skills, and research of past actions. Use knowledge about the payroll system and timekeeping system to advise employees and departments on how to handle other various issues as they arise. Support the other members of the payroll team as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist Financial System Support (FSS) with payroll processes as they relate to Kronos timekeeping and leave reporting, including on-call, overtime, compensatory time, and shared leave.
- Review multiple reports (per Kronos Process Documentation) on a weekly and bi-weekly basis prior to the Kronos Export. Work with other cross functional teams (departments, FSS, HR Benefits, supervisors, and timekeepers) on an ongoing basis.

- Strong attention to detail and maintain a general knowledge of the payroll process and paycheck gross to net calculation.
- Use interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with and understand needs expressed by individuals from a variety of cultures and limited English language skills (Nonresident alien faculty, staff and students).
- Establish a model for professional, positive interactions with customers by using interpersonal skills to change the perspective of unhappy employees.
- Respond calmly to people under stress or expressing displeasure about that particular situation.
- Demonstrate effective and courteous communication with the immediate payroll team, as well as business partners such as Human Resources, Academic Affairs, and the various University departments.
