Summary:
Performs a wide range of engineering work involving the planning, evaluation, design, development, and adaptation of tools, machinery, mechanical equipment, and industrial processes. Focuses on improving productivity, enhancing product quality, and reducing manufacturing costs through the optimal use of labor, equipment, materials, and facilities. Collaborates closely with all personnel to achieve efficient and effective manufacturing outcomes.
Skills:
- Performs mathematical and mechanical calculations and conducts independent analyses using established scientific and engineering principles.
- Initiates and prepares requests for capital projects and manages through completion using good project management skills including utilization of project timelines and analysis of costs.
- Develops and enforces engineering and equipment standards to ensure efficient use of resources, while maintaining accurate technical records and documentation.
- Directly responsible and/or assists in the engineering and related functions of assigned manufacturing operation(s) including:
- The setup and maintenance of labor standards
- Methods, processes and procedures including continuous improvement/LEAN methodology
- Designing and subcontracting of tools, fixtures and gauging
- Controlling CNC functions, setup sheets and DNC systems and all other interacting projects
- Training applicable personnel
- Analyzing and processing engineering change requests
- Plant, machinery, equipment, assembly layouts
- Troubleshooting technical issues (machinery, equipment, processes); and
- Analyzing for improvement to labor, manufacturing costs, variances and margins.
- Initiates cost reduction proposals. Gathers and analyzes relevant data, recommends appropriate actions, oversee implementation when applicable and monitors outcomes to verify effectiveness.
- Responsible for inventorying and ordering non-consigned tooling and shop supplies.
- Provide technical service to all other departments as requested and/or assigned.
- Quotes and/or assists with new products and/or prototypes.
- Resource for less experience colleagues, including scheduling, assigning and assisting as appropriate.
- Manage projects in timely fashion meeting assigned due dates.
- Programming a variety of CNC equipment (i.e. mills, lathes, grinders).
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- A BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, methods and various processes, tools and related manufacturing equipment.
- Must be proficient with computers and have the ability to use Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Access, Outlook).
- Experience in bearing manufacturing a plus or in related/equivalent manufacturing arena (grinding, turning, cutting, milling CNC machinery (and programming languages), and CAD/CAM.
- Able to effectively work in an environment requiring considerable independent judgment, analysis, creativity, and self-motivation.
- Empowered to make informed and educated decisions and take accountability for outcomes.
- Able to communicate effectively utilizing excellent interpersonal skills.
- Physically mobile and able to safely perform routine tasks (standing, sitting, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs.) with or without reasonable accommodation.
