Summary

The Credit and Collections Specialist is responsible for daily monitoring of all balances within territory and collection action taken with necessary or when requested by attorney. Communicates issues and collection progress to manager. This position maintains courteous and professional contact with attorneys, paralegals and staff, and observes confidentiality of client matters.

Required Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in using a variety of computer software products, including Elite, 3E and/or ARCS.
  • 5 years of credit experience.


Preferred Education & Experience



  • 5 years of credit experience, preferably in a law firm environment.


Essential Functions

  • Collections (70%)

    • Responsibility for approval, follow-up, collection, and monitoring of accounts receivable.
    • Negotiate payment plans with clients.
    • Act as a resource for attorneys to work with them and their clients to resolve credit issues.
    • Prepare correspondence and additional documentation with clients regarding agreements.
    • Create and process monthly statements.
    • Maintain client notes and agreements within the Firm's collection software (3E).
    • Recommend and prepare accounts for write off and review with Manager.


  • Credit (10%)

    • Work with manager to develop, revise, and recommend policies and procedures that govern credit and collections.


  • General and Administrative (20%)

    • Member of Billing & Collection Committee - update members re: account status and potential problems or recommendations.
    • Work with Manager monthly to identify and reduce over 90-day outstanding account balances.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the responsibilities of the position, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the person in this position will encounter. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a professional, fast paced office environment that may require additional hours to complete work.
