The Position

This position is part of Genentech's' Hillsboro Innovative Therapy Team (HIT) team based in Hillsboro, Oregon. HIT is a next-generation cell and gene therapy facility with multiple technologies for delivering innovative therapies. In this role, you will operate, respond to alarms, troubleshoot problems, execute maintenance and calibrations for utility, building, production, and QC systems intended to produce medicine on a per-patient or per-batch basis.

You will work with technical experts for plant systems, drive problem elimination, provide analysis/optimization of system performance, and participate in asset lifecycle activities. Specific knowledge in instrument calibration, utility systems operation and maintenance, cryogenics equipment operation and maintenance, temperature-controlled unit maintenance, HVAC operation and maintenance, and the use of natural refrigerants is desired for this position. This position will perform various maintenance, calibration, and repair activities, as well as technical writing, and manage small projects to meet the requirements of a production facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and Maintenance Responsibilities: Includes installation, operation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of utility, process, QC, and building systems, with expertise in equipment within the HIT facility.

  • Desired Skills: Proficiency in instrument calibration, HVAC systems, chiller/boiler systems, water treatment systems, electrical/switchgear, clean room maintenance, and QC lab systems, as well as Predictive Maintenance techniques and equipment understanding.

  • Collaboration and Optimization: Collaborate with internal teams, OEMs, vendors, and business partners to develop safe work practices, optimize maintenance strategies, maximize equipment uptime, and contribute to equipment lifecycle strategies, documentation, and training.

  • Safety and Compliance: Work safely in environments with hazardous chemicals, varying temperatures and pressures, electrical risks, and moving machinery; maintain cGMP compliance and ensure proper use of shop tools and procedures.

  • Technical Expertise and Supervision: Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, prepare and revise technical documents, and supervise contractors in maintenance and repair work.

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • You possess a High School diploma or equivalent with 4 years' minimum experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech, industrial / manufacturing maintenance/operation environment.

  • You have a demonstrated ability to apply experience and hands-on mechanical skills to investigate system deficiencies

  • You possess a demonstrated ability to support technical leadership through teamwork in a cGMP environment across functional and organizational boundaries

  • You have an understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing, process equipment, and supporting utility systems.

  • You have excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills

Nice-To-Have Qualifications:

  • You possess a College degree, engineering degree, technical degree, certificate, or coursework.

  • You have experience in HVAC operation, Utility operation, and natural refrigerant system operation.

  • You possess experience in utility maintenance, Process Equipment maintenance and calibration.

  • You have experience with cell therapy manufacturing and personalized health care environment

Physical conditions and PPE requirements:

  • Initially, this job will have a Wednesday-Saturday or Sunday-Wednesday work week

  • Expected to be on feet for 8 to 10 hours a day.

  • Climb upwards of 6 flights of stairs a day to maneuver within the manufacturing facility.

  • Climb heights up to 30 feet by ladder.

  • Lift up to 40lbs may be required.

  • Environment requires that gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, bunny suits, gloves and steel toe boots be worn. Also, no make-up or jewelry can be worn when working in the clean room environment.

  • Work in clean room environment with large mechanical equipment, piping, and pumps connecting to tanks serviced by high-pressure steam, water and air together this creates a loud environment.

  • Work with electrical systems 480VAC and below

  • Work with hazardous materials and chemicals.

  • Work on pressurized gasses and liquids

  • Work on cryogenic systems

  • Work on steam systems

  • Wear air purifying respirator and wear necessary hearing protection.

  • Crawl, kneel and stoop and work in small work spaces.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Hillsboro, OR is $53,000- $90,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
