Clinical Nurse C-DART

Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse C-DART (Dialysis/Apheresis Resource Team) is an experienced nurse that provides multiple types of highly specialized and complex dialysis and apheresis treatments and procedures in multiple Magnet Recognized tertiary care academic medical centers licensed under Loma Linda University Health (LLUH). Serves pediatric and adult stable and unstable fragile patients in all settings and levels of acuity, e.g., emergent, critical, intermediate, acute, and outpatient ambulatory care. Upon arrival to work, receives assignment for specified procedure(s) based on patient priority for care. Demonstrates flexibility and graciously accepts changes in assignments throughout shift. Utilizes skilled discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide and document direct/indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care, treatments and procedures. Competently performs Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, and Continual Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). Applies theoretical concepts to adult and pediatric nephrology and apheresis clinical practice. Expands clinical portfolio and progressively achieves and maintains competencies in various types of apheresis procedures (Total Plasma Exchange, White Blood Cell Depletion, Red Blood Cell Exchange, Liposorber, Photopheresis, and Stem Cell). Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care and the Clinical Advancement Program. Functions in a patient-centered care model of practice and performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) independently and in accordance with established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) to achieve individualized physical, psychosocial and spiritual wellness and provide compassionate bereavement support. Functions within the expectations of an accomplished professional nurse and meets nursing excellence standards to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Engages in opportunities to directly and indirectly influence decision-making for point-of-care clinical practice by supporting and participating in professional governance councils, committees, task forces and staff meetings. Supports clinical research program and participates in Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved research. Facilitates the advancement of evidenced-based practice at point-of-care to optimize patient outcomes. Represents nursing as an empowered profession and enthusiastically embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements. Provides a positive influence to facilitate change and optimize patient satisfaction and outcomes. Exhibits effective interpersonal skills that portray professionalism and maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of service recovery methodologies and capably resolves issues with speed and sensitivity. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired into a CN-C position in the Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) system prior to transferring to the Dialysis, Apheresis, Resource Team (DART), an Associate Degree or Diploma Degree in Nursing required. Minimum of two years' experience caring for patients with end-stage renal disease in intensive care or two years' experience in dialysis or apheresis required. External hires into the CN-C position have one year to meet CN-C criteria outlined in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) handbook. The CN-C is eligible to be promoted into the CN-D classification when criteria outlined in the CAP handbook and job specifications outlined in CN-D job description are met.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates robust competencies in end-stage renal disease treatment modalities and apheresis procedures required. Solid knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey process required. Exhibits professional behavior at all times. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills. Able to read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support(PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
