OUC - The Reliable One, an industry leader and the second-largest municipal utility in Florida, is offering an internship program in the Digital & Technology division.

The OUC Internship Program is dedicated to providing students with real-world, hands-on experience by partnering with energy leaders and experienced professionals, while bringing new and out-of-the-box perspectives and ideas that are essential for fostering the creativity and growth of any business. OUC's internship program provides emerging talent with an immersive view of the utility industry through on-the-job training, educational sessions, self-paced learning courses, and individual or team projects.

We are looking for a Programming, Data Infrastructure, and Automation Intern. During this internship, you will partner with the Operations Tool team.

You will be involved in:

  • Assisting the design, development, testing, and deployment of automated reporting solutions that operate across enterprise data infrastructure and workflow systems, gaining hands-on experience in real engineering tasks.
  • Able to write backend scripts in Python to automate data processing and reporting tasks, with guidance from experienced developers.
  • Integrate automation scripts into scheduled workflows using enterprise automation tools.
  • Validate and verify the accuracy and integrity of automated data outputs, troubleshoot issues, and refine solutions to ensure dependable performance across development, test, and production environments.
  • Collaborate with developers and business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and contribute to effective automation solutions.
  • Monitor and maintain existing automation workflows, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization as part of continuous learning.

Internship Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university
  • Academic status of Juniors or above.
  • Program of study: Information Technology, or Computer Science.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above at the time of application.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Previous internship experience preferred

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Strong academic foundation in Python, Data Structure & Algorithms, Data Infrastructure.
  • Foundational programming knowledge (object-oriented or scripted languages)
  • Ability to read, understand, and extend existing codebases
  • Understanding of data flow concepts such as inputs, transformations, and outputs
  • Familiarity with structured files such as CSV and Excel
  • Basic understanding of backend or automation-focused engineering work
  • Ability to debug issues using logs and error messages
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Compensation: $18 - $21 per hour, varies depending on the education level

Schedule: Full-Time (up to 40 hours per week) as assigned by leader following Hybrid Schedule
