Temporary Informatics and Data Analyst - QMPS

The temporary Quality Milk Production Services (QMPS) data analyst will work with all QMPS staff including technicians, program aids, veterinarians, and researchers to advance data-driven decision-making across Quality Milk Production Services by developing, deploying, and maintaining analytics and AI solutions that improve milk quality, animal health outcomes, and operational efficiency. This role will integrate large, complex datasets from field, laboratory, and operational systems to generate reliable insights and scalable tools. They will work to streamline and automate data flows and work processes, reducing cycle time and improving data quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field and up to 2 years relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Practical experience with AI/ML and AI agents to support decision assistance, triage, and workflow execution with appropriate evaluation and guardrails
  • Experience translating domain-expert knowledge into usable, validated data representations and decision-support tools
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing large, complex datasets and delivering analytics products used in operational decision-making.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or R; proficiency with SQL; experience with data modeling and data quality validation.
  • Experience designing automation for data pipelines and workflows (scheduling, validation, alerting, observability) in collaboration with engineering/IT
  • Proven ability to translate stakeholder needs into measurable analytics deliverables; strong communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with AI systems including LLM-based workflows and AI agents (tool use, retrieval, evaluation, and guardrails
  • Demonstrated skill in structured expert knowledge extraction (interviews, workshops, protocol capture), and translating expertise into reusable data representations
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Position will involve

  • Designing information system components to deliver end-to-end analytics solutions (data ingestion, modeling, visualization, and deployment) supporting milk quality improvement, process control, and service program outcomes.
  • Building and optimizing scalable data pipelines for high-volume and high-variety data (field records, lab results, sensor streams, text notes), ensuring reliability, lineage, and auditability.
  • Streamlining and automating recurring workflows and data flows (ETL/ELT, validation rules, alerting, exception handling), reducing manual effort and improving timeliness and consistency.
  • Analyzing large data sets and extracting key results in support of research and program activities.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is a full-time, 6-month temporary position with potential to extend based on funding and performance
  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
