Summary:

The Application Engineer is responsible for defining the technical needs of our customers and translating them into an SKF offering. They will support and grow SKF Heavy Industry Business while providing comprehensive Engineering support. They promote SKF know-how and value proposition in line with corporate and industry growth strategy, working closely with Sales and Customer Service as part of the responsible Account Team. They manage technical relationships with customers, responding to inquiries, handling complaints, and evaluating technical risks.



Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for all SKF product platforms to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers in the Heavy Industries Business (Pulp & Paper, Mining and Metals Industries).
  • Support existing activities, develop new technical solutions, maintain/establish technical contacts, provide technical insights, and generate opportunities within an assigned account base.
  • Proactively drive the technical agenda with customers to establish brand preference for SKF
  • Identify and manage technically oriented projects, including high-value platform integration solutions
  • Be the technical specialist/resource within the industry for SKF products and technologies, through relationships with global subject experts.
  • Define the customer's technical need and drive it throughout the entire SKF full-value chain.
  • Provide product training and technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Technical support will include application review, bearing system selection and verification, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and damage analysis.
  • Customer interaction will include on-site customer visits in addition to phone and email communications.
  • Travel approximately 30% of the time as customers need dictates.



Requirements/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or comparable degree)
  • 3+ years of design/application experience in an industrial environment - power train applications or rotating equipment, working with customers, and designing mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of bearings, transmission products or seals is beneficial
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving, good mechanical aptitude and manufacturing process knowledge
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage projects with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically with drive and passion
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
