Medical Assistant - Gynecology/Oncology Department - 24 Hours

Hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Location: Clinton Twp, around the corner from Macomb Hospital.
We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic Medical Assistant to provide dedicated support to our cancer patients at our fastpaced Oncology Clinic. As an MA, you will be an integral member of a diseasespecific care team, working closely with providers to deliver respectful, highquality, patientcentered care throughout every step of the treatment journey.
This parttime Medical Assistant position supports both the Hematology/Oncology and Gynecologic Oncology clinics at our Atrium office in Macomb. The MA will work three days per week, contributing to smooth clinic operations and exceptional patient care across both oncology specialties. In this role, you will assist with patient flow, clinical tasks, and directly support providers during procedures, including tasks such as specimen labeling, instrument handling, and assisting with biopsies.

Strong criticalthinking and clinical problemsolving skills are essential, as the MA will support patients requiring complex, multimodality cancer care. Additional hours may be available to provide coverage for vacations or staff absences.
Schedule & Work Environment
Parttime, guaranteed 24 hours per week (three days)
Fridays assigned to Gynecologic Oncology; two days assigned to Hematology/Oncology
Monday-Friday schedule; no weekends, holidays, or nights
Typical hours: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM (some shifts 8:30 AM-5:00 PM)
Schedules released six weeks in advance
Opportunity to pick up additional hours if available
Key Responsibilities
Rooming patients, obtaining medical histories, and documenting in the electronic medical record
Measuring and recording vital signs
Assisting providers and PAs during procedures (e.g., biopsies), including specimen labeling and instrument handling
Obtaining bloodwork and administering medications (injections)
Providing patient and family teaching
Supporting postsurgical care
Managing charts, patient flow, and general clinic support across both departments
Collaborating closely with a fulltime MA experienced in gynecologic oncology
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients.
These duties may include but are not limited to:
The greeting and escorting of patients to the exam room,
Obtaining medical histories,
The measurement and recording of vital signs,
Preparing patients for an examination/procedure,
Assisting the provider during the examination/procedure.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred.
Ability to problem-solve preferred.
Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
EPIC(Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum).OR
Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years. OR
Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). OR
Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. OR
Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a patient care setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases.
Manual dexterity required to complete performance of duties. Walks, stands, stoops, and may require some heavy lifting of patients and/or equipment.
