What to Expect
As part of the Tesla Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) team for Energy Mechanical parts, you will be responsible for critical component development, quality management and life cycle activities within the supply chain. This team supports mechanical parts for energy storage and charging in industrial and residential applications. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, conducting failure analysis, leading statistical process control activities for critical components and on-the-spot critical decision making. The goal: delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla's production processes to enable rapid development cycles and product launches, drive process and quality improvement and reduce waste.

What You'll Do
  • Responsible for supplier quality performance at the Tesla factory through daily onsite work to support data collection, identify failure trends and confirm issue origination with communication to internal and external teams
  • Lead cross-functional discussions between Suppliers, Supplier Industrialization Engineering, Quality Engineering & Designers for resolution to quality issues related to energy mechanical parts
  • Engage with Tesla Quality Engineering and Suppliers on issuing Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) - developing short term containment and long-term corrective actions with follow up and management from beginning to end
  • Diligently drive supplier accountability for part quality issues by effectively managing SCAR related activities including Sorts & Reworks, dispositioning MRB material, issuing chargebacks and validating supplier clean points
  • Coordinate New Product Introductions (NPI), line trials and samples with factory teams on design changes, sourcing changes and supplier change requests with feedback to suppliers
  • Support SIE teams for urgent onsite support at supplier sites to correct problems
  • Drive completion of aging Tesla Qualification Process (TQP) tasks as directed by SIE
  • Works with Quality Engineer for SCAR Verification of Effectiveness (VOE) and drives closure of SCARs
  • Owner of RFQ's and contract management - ensure Non-Disclosure Agreements, General Terms & Conditions, Piece Price Agreements, and other related contracts are negotiated, agreed and appropriately documented before business is initiated
  • Drive negotiation for piece price and product development to ensure that Tesla's pricing meets best-landed-cost expectations as well as Supplier Industrialization standards of Best-In-Class quality

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering ,or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability
  • 3+ years of experience supporting sheet metal, stamping, machining or similar mechanical fabrication processes in a Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering role
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Quality Systems (PPAP/APQP), NPI, statistical process control (SPC), inspection methods and specific training or demonstrated success in applying, analyzing, and reviewing quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, hypothesis testing, DoE and 8D
  • 1 year experience with 3D CAD, DFM, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Lean Manufacturing a plus
  • Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, seeking opportunities to improve processes, part quality and overall efficiency and in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical writing and discussion ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner

    Expected Compensation
    $64,800 - $172,800/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
