Description

Are you passionate about solving complex electrical design challenges and building rapid prototypes that are tested at sea?

Do you enjoy integrating electronics onto shipboard systems and seeing your work perform in real-world maritime applications?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking a Maritime Electrical Engineering Intern with a background in electrical systems to support the development of advanced shipboard electronics, from initial concept through rapid prototyping and field testing. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team to design, build, and deliver innovative systems that directly impact national security missions at sea.

As a Maritime Electrical Engineering Intern, you will...

  • Develop shipboard systems applying core electrical skills in analog and digital circuit/circuit board design for rapid-fielding maritime systems.
  • Perform testing and quality control for maritime systems in both a lab environment and during integration onto U.S. Navy platforms.
  • Document designs and prepare technical reports to support integration and installation onto maritime platforms.
  • Research new technologies and develop prototypes to analyze emerging capabilities.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum requirements for the job if you...

  • Are currently pursuing a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Are interested in designing, assembling, integrating, or testing electrical systems.
  • Are proficient with foundational analog and digital circuit concepts.
  • Have experience with basic electrical tools and common lab equipment (e.g., spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes).
  • Are willing to work periodically aboard a U.S. Navy vessel with a complementary team of technical experts.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Note: When prompted to upload attachments, please include a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
  • Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have completed coursework in, or are proficient with, RF or analog circuit design, or antennas.
  • Have experience designing, fabricating, and testing printed circuit boards, and using Altium (or similar EDA tools).
  • Have experience working on electrical engineering projects.
  • Have familiarity with system requirements.
  • Have experience with VLF, HF, VHF, and UHF systems.
  • Have experience with Navy electronics and systems.
