How You'll Make an Impact The Temp Project Accountant III provides advanced financial leadership to complex projects and serves as a strategic partner to Project Managers through expert-level tracking, analysis, and billing oversight. This role handles complex assignments with a high degree of independence, applies strong professional judgment, and proactively identifies risks, efficiencies, and solutions.
In addition to delivering high-quality project accounting support, the Project Accountant III contributes to improving financial processes, reporting accuracy, and system utilization across the team.
This role also offers the opportunity to collaborate with and support the Business Operations team on financial systems, reporting, and process improvement initiatives. For candidates with interest and aptitude, there may be exposure to cross-functional work that enhances how financial data, systems, and workflows support firmwide operations.

This position is remote, with the option to work from one of our local offices.

This position is a temporary position with an end date. Temporary employees are those employed for short-term assignments. This position is not eligible for company benefits except as required by applicable law. Duties and Responsibilities
Project Accounting and Client Support
  • Build strong relationships and serve as a trusted advisor to Project Managers throughout the full project life cycle, from notice of award through final closeout
  • Set up and maintain projects in Deltek Vantagepoint in accordance with contract requirements; read and interpret contracts for accounting, billing, and invoicing implications
  • Prepare and distribute monthly billing reports to Project Managers; process labor and expense transfers as needed and ensure costs comply with contract terms
  • Ensure accurate and complete invoice packages are submitted to clients in a timely manner, including all required supporting documentation
  • Respond promptly and professionally to internal and external inquiries; investigate issues, problem-solve, and clearly communicate resolutions
  • Follow up with clients to confirm invoice receipt and payment status; partner with Project Managers to resolve collection issues
  • Monitor project work-in-progress (WIP) and review monthly aged WIP reports with Project Managers; collaborate to resolve aging or compliance issue
Systems, Reporting, and Process Support
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for Deltek Vantagepoint project accounting and billing functionality
  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams to support accurate financial reporting, billing processes, and data integrity
  • Identify opportunities to improve project accounting workflows, reporting consistency, and system usage efficiency
  • Support testing, documentation, and user adoption related to system enhancements, reporting improvements, or process changes impacting project accounting
  • Provide guidance and informal training to Project Managers and project accounting team members on best practices for financial systems and reporting
Business Operations Collaboration (Opportunity-Based)
  • Collaborate with the Business Operations team to support financial systems, reporting, and operational initiatives as needed
  • Assist with system enhancements, reporting improvements, testing, or documentation related to Deltek Vantagepoint and related tools
  • Contribute to cross-functional efforts that improve data accuracy, process consistency, and operational efficiency
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of project accounting experience within a professional services firm
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and nested formulas
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conference, and written correspondence
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, strong follow-through, and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Deltek Vision and or Deltek Vantagepoint as a power user
  • Interest in gaining exposure to or supporting business operations, financial systems, and cross-functional process improvement initiatives
  • Experience supporting financial reporting, dashboards, analytics, or operational metrics within a professional services environment
  • Ability to partner with business systems or operations teams on process improvements, system enhancements, or reporting initiatives
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Leadership capability with the potential to mentor team members or grow into a supervisory role
  • Ability to work overtime during peak billing or audit cycles
Compensation: $50-$53 hourly*
*Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.
Working ConditionsEnvironment
  • This job operates in an outdoor or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • This job requires project site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.
Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This job requires the following:
  • Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).
