LOCATION: The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center Phoenix, Arizona STATUS: Exempt/ On-Call MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a minimum of 16 years old.
- Working knowledge of areas of sports such as (volleyball, basketball, flag football, soccer, etc.)
- One year of experience of sport or related coaching experience.
- Must have ability to work and relate well with people and project a friendly, customer service demeanor.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Meet all Health Department and Salvation Army health & safety regulations.
- Good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the climbing wall, gymnasium, and athletic field programs.
- Have a philosophy oriented towards childhood education & child development.
- Demonstrated ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, mentoring and education including but not limited to:
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
- Sensitivity to children's individual needs.
- Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
- Dependability.
- Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly.
- Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach beginners and intermediate learners in assigned sport.
- Communicate before both small and large groups of people with poise and enthusiasm.
- Provide individual guidelines for development in the assigned sport, following the coaches' handbook for consistency and clarity.
- Attend coaches meeting and trainings in assigned sport, including referring clinics.
- Critique and give feedback to participants regarding their work and performance level.
- Create, teach, implement, and demonstrate all incidents with facilities to proper supervisors.
- Generate legible and accurate accident and incident reports as required and immediately notify appropriate personnel of all accidents or potential unsafe conditions.
- Display integrity, enthusiasm, and sound moral judgment.
- Follow and adhere to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures including Protecting the Mission policy.
- Provide a safe, fun, and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.
- Maintain open communication with direct supervisor regarding scheduling and coaching.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with children, parents, customers, staff, and management always.
- Be on time and prepared to teach your class.
- Help facilitate equality and fairness among all participants.
- Follow Team Composition Objectives found in the coaches' handbook(s).
- Ensure that any changes of modifications are communicated to supervisors and all participants in an efficient manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned as related to the position of Sports Instructor I.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must have ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
