Primary Purpose

Performs specified patient care activities to assigned patient population under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Healthcare Provider and is committed to the provision of patient centered/patient valued care.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education
- Must have completed training through an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
- Must have a High School diploma or GED.

Experience
- None

Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Must have a current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification within 90 days of hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:
American Heart Association
American Red Cross Rescuer
Military Training Network
- Current incumbents in the role as of 7/1/2023 must obtain a health care provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification no later than 9/30/2023.

Must have current Hearing and Vision Screening Certificate within 90 days of hire and/or placement in job.
Must have and maintain Texas Department of Health Services Texas Radiation Control Act registration to use audiometric equipment or must obtain within 90 days of placement in role and maintain thereafter.

Skills or Special Abilities
- Must be able to demonstrate basic patient skills and skill in the use of supplies and assigned equipment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and PHHS staff.
- Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

Responsibilities
1. Performs specified patient care activities which may include administering immunizations and PPD's, drawing blood, performing lab procedures and collection of specimens, performing diagnostic tests, and taking vital signs, in accordance with the provision of patient centered/patient valued care, while providing optimal care services to patients and their families.

2. Serves as a patient advocate, focusing on patient needs, patient rights, confidentiality, and religious and cultural preferences.

3. Monitors ongoing patient status and responds to a patient's change in condition by notifying and assisting nurses and other health team members in handling patient care needs.

4. Makes appropriate notations and records activities performed, i.e., vital signs, immunizations, and PPD's, etc. that support the mission, objectives, and standards as established by the clinical area.

5. Cleans designated or special areas, performs quality control checks, and delivers patient specimens when applicable in order to provide optimal patient care. May escort patients to other areas.

6. Participates in continuing education activities by attending in-service sessions, department meetings, workshops, reading magazines or journals on patient care and demonstrates knowledge gained into current work practices.

7. Maintains, updates, and utilizes knowledge of cleanliness, infection control, safety, supplies and equipment usage to optimize customer care and services. Monitors conditions of patient environment and equipment, i.e. wheelchairs, scales, floor conditions, and corrects the condition and/or reports the deficiencies or defects for immediate correction as appropriate.

1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
