The Payroll & Benefits Specialist provides payroll, benefits, and accounting support to the company. This position has contact with employees, former employees, managers, brokers, state and federal agencies and benefits and payroll vendors. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and a sense of urgency are required. Knowledge of payroll, benefits, and labor law is preferred. This individual will report to the leader of Total Rewards and must exercise good judgment in fulfilling the responsibilities of the essential job functions. Responsibilities Payroll
- Assist with payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees
- Multi-state SIT & SUI activities including compliance with local, state and federal agencies
- Calculate manual checks for additional and special pay requests
- Review and process involuntary wage deductions (IWO, garnishments, levies, liens)
- Manage administrative direct deposit updates and HSA funding
- Provide payroll information, answer questions, explain calculations, taxes and deductions
- Resolve discrepancies with payroll and benefits matters
- Obtain detailed knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and legislation affecting pay, tax and timekeeping (FLSA, DOR/CFR, CCPA, SSA, etc.)
System
- Data entry audit of new hires, employee record changes (pay, department, etc.) and terminations
- Assist with ADP systems administration and routine data audits
- Process terminations and final pay calculations
- Prepare standard, ad hoc and specialty reports
- Review employee status changes for accuracy
- Maintain company intranet sites for payroll, compensation, & benefits
Benefits
- Process monthly benefit election via ADP enrollment portal
- Manual entry of off-cycle benefit enrollments and changes
- Support Benefits Open Enrollment communications, preparation, and education
- Support Wellness Campaign communications, scheduling, education, and events
- Respond to benefit inquiries, assist with resolution of billing and coverage issues in cooperation with brokers and/or vendors
- Assist with annual Benefit Guide updates and benefit plan documentation
- Audit/reconcile monthly COBRA paid/delinquent reports
- Assist with 401(k) plan administration and payroll funding
- Assist with Leave of Absence (LOA) management (FMLA, WC, STD, LTD)
- Remain current on changing Federal, State and local regulations and legislations affecting benefits, 401(k), (FMLA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, GINA, etc.)
Other Duties as Assigned Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree OR equivalent work experience
Knowledge & Experience
- HRIS experience, ADP WFN preferred
- Excel experience and intermediate/expert competence
- 1+ years of Payroll and Benefits experience

- Moderate degree of analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to establish and change priorities rapidly
Work Environment
- 24 hours per week on-site, 16 hours per week remote work after training
- Sitting for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components
