Medical Scholars (Pre-Med & Pre-PA Students - Gap Year) - Multiple Locations East/West CLE

Description

This Medical Scholars role is designed for students who are taking a gap year between Bachelors degree and will be pursuing Medical School or PA School. It is a chance to support direct patient care through clinical and non-clinical experiential opportunities. The Patient Care Nursing Assistant completes patient care activities as delegated by theNurse Manager.

This Medical Scholar term will commence 15 June 2026. Positions will be offered at various location across NE Ohio, including the east, west, south and central markets.

As a PCNA, the Medical Scholar will learn to/perform duties at a UH Physician Office Ambulatory Location. Responsibilties include, but are not limited to:
Perform patient check-in
Room patients
Record vital signs
Perform patient interviews (e.g., Tobacco, Breast Cancer, Falls, Screenings)
Validate medication lists
Develop advanced skills through hands on learning and didactic study
Train in Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine's skills lab

This Program affords the Medical Scholar with mentorship with CWRU faculty or University Hospitals attendings, as well as Near Peer mentorship (current med student serving as peer mentor).

Applicants MUST possess his/her Bachelor's degree by June 1st, 2026, and should possess strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as exhibits strong organizational skills and work ethic; demonstrates a professional demeanor when responding to patients and working under providers. The ideal candidates will have a passion for medical care and the patient population with the goal of forging relationships for their future career path while gaining empirical healthcare experience.
