Job Summary

The Internal Audit team provides assurance to management and the Finance and Audit Committee that the organization's internal control structure is operating effectively and efficiently to reduce financial, operational and compliance risks to an acceptable level. IA's objectives are to provide these assurance and consulting activities in a manner designed to add value and improve organizational operations and risk management.

An individual in this role is expected to advance efforts supporting Internal Audit's strategic initiatives to maximize the value of data analysis and visualization and artificial intelligence in the internal audit process. The Data Analytics Auditor, Sr. will develop and maintain an understanding of the Corewell Health internal audit processes enabling them to contribute to the execution of the overall audit strategy, increase departmental utilization of data analytics and artificial intelligence, and develop continuous monitoring of key internal controls. The Data Analytics Auditor, Sr. will also perform internal audit procedures, support internal audit staff, support and seek opportunities to enhance reporting, and work on special projects as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Contributes to audit plan development through participation in risk and audit brainstorms and leads efforts to expand the use of data analysis to support annual audit plan development. Works collaboratively with Internal Audit team members to facilitate and support data mining and analysis in audits, monitoring, and special projects. Performs special projects as requested including performing internal audit activities in support of audit project completion.
  • Develops and maintains a high level of skill in data analytics and visualization technologies applicable to Corewell Health such as R, Python, SQL and Power BI. Seeks appropriate data sources and ensures data quality for projects. Ensures data integrity and accuracy. Enhances overall team capability through knowledge sharing and collaboration. Performs special projects as requested including performing internal audit activities in support of audit project completion.
  • Business Relationship Management - Interacts with all levels of management throughout the organization. Establishes effective business relationships and raises the level of risk and control awareness within the organization.
  • Keeps current with continuing professional education requirements as required; trends and developments in internal audit profession, information technology and health care industry; and auditing and technology standards. Obtains relevant continuing professional education to support effective execution of role and to stay current with trends and developments in utilizing data analysis and visualization and artificial intelligence tools to enhance the internal audit process. Actively participates in professional societies. Understands and conforms to Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Challenges the status quo and brings awareness to opportunities for change. Actively participates in the generation of innovative & creative ideas to formulate new/improved audit approaches, tools & techniques. Contributes to the development of data analytics and relevant audit technology skills of less-experienced team members through training and project feedback. Contributes to the evaluation of audit management technology solutions through understanding of current solution and identification of alternative solutions that can increase team efficiency and/or effectiveness.
  • Contributes to the development of data analytics skills for less experienced team members through coaching and project input and feedback. Assists in training audit staff and new hires as requested.
  • Performs job-related duties in conformance with DS standards.
  • Performs standard data analysis such as trend analysis and correlation to effectively interpret data. Reviews multiple data sets looking at correlating factors and relationships between data.
  • Employs a system-level, team-oriented mindset with an eye on the enterprise. Research new data sources and analytical tools.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in business, liberal arts, computer science, application programming, software development, information systems, database administration, mathematics, engineering, or related field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience using data analytics tools and data lakes/warehouses, such as Snowflake, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar. Ability to apply tools within the context of audits and special projects.
  • 5 years of relevant experience, combined experience in audit, data analytics, compliance, risk management, process improvement, healthcare, finance, and/or information technology.
