Job Summary

This position begins August 14, 2026.

The Performing Arts Department at Glendale Community College (AZ) is seeking a pianist who is both an accomplished artist and an experienced teacher. The department's music program serves over 200 music majors and offers both an Associate of Arts in Fine Arts for transfer and an Associate of Applied Science in Audio Production Technologies. Glendale Community College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

The ideal candidate will have a strong record of successful teaching and collaboration. Primary responsibilities include teaching class piano and applied piano, recruiting and advising piano students, and assisting with the selection of adjunct faculty for the piano area. Additional duties include overseeing the maintenance of the piano inventory and managing budgets and scholarships for piano students.

Depending on departmental needs, the successful candidate may also contribute expertise in related areas such as music theory, aural skills, ensembles, musical theatre, music technology, or performance disciplines including chamber music, popular music, jazz, or non-Western music.

Essential Functions

Master's Degree or higher in one of the following fields:
  • Music, any specialization

OR, a Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes/subjects:
  • MHL, MUP, MUC, MTC, MUS

OR, a Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in courses with these keywords:
  • Music Theory, Music Performance, Music History, Music Therapy


Desired Qualifications

A. Recent college experience teaching Class/Group Piano

B. Recent experience teaching Applied Piano

C. Experience working or teaching in collaborative piano, musical theatre, and/or piano pedagogy

D. Experience working or teaching in one or more related music fields that are not piano (e.g., music theory and aural perception, large musical ensembles and/or chamber music)

E. Experience working or teaching in one or more related contemporary music fields that are not piano (e.g., music technology, music business and other performance areas such as popular music, jazz and/or non-Western music)

F. DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) or PhD in music with graduate-level coursework in piano

G. Professional performance experience in piano

Special Working Conditions
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require numerous evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs
