Organizational Unit Overview: The Emergency Preparedness and Response Department is responsible for assuring that appropriate plans, strategies, and governance structures are in place to enable the company to effectively prepare for, respond to and recover from events that impact the company, employees, customers, and the communities we serve. Position Overview: CENTERPOINT ENERGY is involved in a companywide effort to efficiently centralize monitoring, assessment, and reporting of incidents, accidents, and significant events across the enterprise. The CenterPoint Energy Watch Office is responsible for maintaining awareness of all incidents or events that might have a significant impact on the company. The Watch Office assesses and regularly reassesses the scope and impact of incidents, keeps executive management informed, and recommends escalation if needed. This position will function as a Watch Officer. They will provide 24/7/365 real time reporting and coordination support to all CenterPoint Energy organizational units, facilities, and employees. Watch Officers will maintain strong situational awareness of internal and external factors (such as weather), planned events, and emergent incidents; receive initial reports of incidents, accidents, and emergencies from diverse sources; proactively develop, collect, and vet additional information; conduct an overall assessment of hazards, risks, and impacts; initiate or assist with the initiation of protective measures and mitigation strategies; ensure that appropriate notifications (and updates) are made to managers, executives, and regulators; escalate response and mitigation actions when needed; ensure that sufficient resources are assigned; assist with obtaining resources and coordinating logistics support; follow through, monitor, and report on ongoing incidents until they are resolved or complete; and create and maintain logs and records available for future reference or to respond to legal or regulatory inquiries.
