Description We will only consider candidates out of the Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse areas Platform Engineer (Cloud IaC) - AWS & Azure Up to 6 month contract with option to hire perm in our area. We're seeking a Platform Engineer to design, build, and modernize cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). This role focuses on enabling scalable, secure, and automated deployments for multi-tenant and siloed architectures. You will collaborate closely with Developers, Security Engineers, Solutions Architects, and DevOps Engineers to streamline IaC workflows and support modernization initiatives. Healthcare compliance familiarity is highly desirable. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and refactor Terraform (HCL) modules for AWS and Azure services. Improve modularity, state management, environments, and workspaces for reliable deployments. Collaborate with DevOps Engineers on pipeline integration to support IaC execution, CLI commands, and configuration for deployment workflows. Address security findings tied to IaC misconfigurations and codify guardrails for compliance (e.g., least-privilege IAM, encryption, tagging). Partner with Security Engineers to translate compliance requirements (including healthcare standards) into actionable Terraform policies. Support modernization of manually deployed Azure workloads by migrating them to Terraform for automation and scalability. Review architecture design documents, provide implementation plans, and estimate feasibility and timelines for proposed solutions. Maintain documentation including runbooks, module READMEs, and onboarding guides for platform consumers. AWS Focus Areas Operate and enhance serverless AWS environments leveraging ECS with Fargate, Aurora Serverless v2 (Postgres), EventBridge, SQS, Lambda, RDS Proxy, Cognito, AppConfig, IAM, and other core AWS services. Manage multi-tenant pooled architecture while also supporting siloed deployments as needed. Collaborate on improvements to IaC structure across multiple Git repositories in Azure DevOps. Azure Focus Areas Support siloed per-tenant Azure architecture that includes App Service, API Management (APIM), Azure Function Apps, Event Grid, Azure AI Search, Document Intelligence, Key Vault, App Configuration, Cosmos DB, Application Insights, Storage Account, and Azure Maps. Drive modernization efforts to automate provisioning with Terraform for faster onboarding and improved repeatability. Required Skills & Experience Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and HCL for AWS and Azure. Deep understanding of AWS and Azure services listed above. Familiarity with Azure DevOps for Git repository management and CI/CD collaboration. Proficiency in Bash scripting for automation tasks. Understanding of cloud/distributed application architectures and their impact on IaC. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical trade-offs effectively. Healthcare compliance familiarity (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST) is a plus.
