POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

Provide support to the Tax Department related to domestic tax compliance and preparation and documentation of quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations.

MAJOR / KEY JOB DUTIES



  • Work with tax manager and staff in the annual income tax compliance process, including the preparation, review and filing of income tax returns, extensions and estimated tax payments for multiple entities.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with internal departments and third party providers to obtain and provide tax information timely.
  • Be responsible for quarterly and annual compliance deadlines for Federal, state and third parties and keeping the tax calendar up to date.
  • Be responsible for staying up to date on new legislation and preparing detailed research memos for use by multiple internal and external parties.
  • Be responsible for keeping tax compliance software and tax provision software up to date for new tax laws, organizations structure changes.
  • Take the lead role in coordinating responses to Federal, state, and local income tax notices and audits and updating tax summary schedules.
  • Work with tax director, tax manager and staff in preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations and documentation. Includes preparation of quarterly and annual REIT tests and taking the lead role in preparing and updating key workpapers for import into tax software.
  • Actively participate in month-end and year-end closing activities, including the preparation and review of journal entries.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of income tax general ledger accounts in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the fixed asset department to review changes in depreciation methods and assist in preparation and review of monthly tax fixed asset reports and perform related reconciliations.
  • Assist staff accountant with annual report filing and tracking process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & COMPETENCIES



  • Working knowledge of ASC 740 and general federal and state income tax concepts
  • Proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel and ability to work with large amounts of data)
  • Knowledge and experience with ONESOURCE Tax Provision and ONESOURCE Income Tax
  • Good communication skills; both orally and written.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Organized and detail oriented.


ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Less than 10% travel.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited 4-year university.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of related income tax and ASC 740 experience with a public accounting firm
  • Prior knowledge and experience with FAS Asset Accounting software (or similar fixed asset program) preferred.
  • CPA candidate and/or Masters in Accountancy preferred
