What to Expect
The Test Systems Engineering team is an agile hardware testing group working across both Vehicle and Energy programs to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. The team provides turnkey test solutions, collaborating with various groups from research and development to manufacturing test. Leveraging Tesla's own products and technologies, we create innovative test solutions that expedite R&D and validation cycle times, reducing both cost and complexity. These solutions include motor, powertrain, and all-wheel drive dynamometers, high-power bidirectional AC and DC sources, grid simulators, data acquisition, and advanced software control systems. This function operates at the heart of Tesla's core technologies, empowering engineers to push the boundaries of electric vehicle and energy innovation.
What You'll Do
- Drive end-to-end delivery of new test-system capabilities: from control algorithm design and real-time implementation to production
- Develop and tune high-performance embedded C/C++ firmware for power-electronics and real-time control systems (Stationary Inverters, DCDC Converters)
- Build and evolve our core Python/Rust test-platform stack-delivering scalable, high-reliability automation, data-acquisition, and orchestration tools
- Lead software and firmware integration for test platforms, including in-house and off-the-shelf bidirectional power supplies, ensuring efficiency and reliability
- Tune, characterize, and validate power electronics and power supply systems, resolving issues during system bring-up, performance, and safety testing
- Serve as a technical consultant for cross-functional teams, shaping feature development and system architecture decisions
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of high voltage power electronic systems (Stationary/Traction Inverters, DCDC Converters), electric motors, and low voltage systems
- Strong knowledge of control theory and algorithm implementation
- Strong knowledge of test automation and data analysis in Python
- Familiarity with embedded systems/firmware in C/C++/Rust
- Motivation to work hands-on in solving problems efficiently to meet tight deadlines
