What to Expect
Tesla is looking to hire a Staff PV Cell Engineer to develop Si cell technology and processes for solar products. In this role, you will drive technical decisions for the next generation of cells for energy products at Tesla. This role is core to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects.
What You'll Do
- Evaluate technology paths for Si cells, wafers, and modules and guide product performance considerations
- For deployed technologies, realize target product performance by designing and running process and integration DOEs
- Evaluate PV cell design tradeoffs between efficiency, cost, reliability, and other factors to recommend cell designs
- Identify limiters, set technical roadmap to achieve cell improvement goals, demonstrate potential, and realize improvements in pilot
- Identify next generation device architecture, materials, processes, and equipment to push the envelope of PV design and performance
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience in engineering semiconductor devices, or equivalent relevant experience
- 3+ years of crystalline Si photovoltaic cell experience
- Deep experimental, process, material, or modeling understanding
- Proficient in measuring device characteristics and designing test structures to isolate device characteristics
- Metrology expertise for at least one of quantum efficiency, lifetime, contact and sheet resistance, C-V
- Capability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally

Expected Compensation
$150,560 - $225,840/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
