| Primary Purpose of the Position: |
The Certified Licensed Counselor for Alcohol and Other Drugs serves as a key member of the larger team of committed mental health professionals and promotes emotional well-being and support services to assist students with diverse backgrounds in their emotional, psychological, and intellectual development. The connection between mental health and substance use is significant, particularly as students navigate unique social and economic challenges. The number of alcohol and drug cases referred to counseling services by Student Conduct continues to rise, highlighting the need for specialized support.
The position is responsible for the delivery of comprehensive substance use counseling services specializing in alcohol and other drug therapy and mental health programs. The Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselor will focus on providing substance use therapy, coordinating the Collegiate Recovery Community Program, and conducting the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (
BASICS) and Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students (
CASICS) sessions for students referred by Student Conduct. Additionally, this role will involve organizing workshops, overseeing the peer education program, and facilitating community outreach activities that promote holistic well-being and substance-free lifestyles. Currently, the Counseling and Personal Development Center's Counseling Team, along with the Director, is performing these duties. |
| Minimum Education And Experience Requirements: |
- A Master's degree is required in Psychology, Counseling, or Clinical Social Work.
- Fully licensed in the State of North Carolina in the appropriate discipline and maintained according to NC laws.
- One to three years of post-graduate clinical experience providing comprehensive substance use counseling services to include Collegiate Recovery.
- Trained to conduct Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS)
- Possess strong clinical skills.
- Experience in program assessment and evaluation.

- Crisis management skills, including experience with risk assessment and safety planning.
- Established commitment to multicultural competencies.

| Preferred Qualifications: |
- Four to five years of post-graduate clinical experience providing comprehensive substance use counseling services.
- Experience in a university counseling center.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with substance use.
- Demonstrated experience running a Collegiate Recovery Program.
- Generalists who are culturally affirming and have experience working with diverse populations.
- Experience and a strong interest in providing outreach presentations and group work.
- Experience in program assessment and evaluation.
