Overview
R&P Technologies is looking for an experienced Marine Electrician III with good technical skills and waterfront knowledge to work under the supervision of a Lead Technician Level IV. Provide training to Technician Level II and I personnel. They are responsible for reporting all task completions and production obstacles to their Lead Technician and will be capable of standing in as Lead Technician when required. Ensure that all work performed is in accordance with ship specification requirements while complying with all OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures. Execute plans of electrical installations to include, but not limited to 115VAC/440VAC/Various VDC equipment, fiber optics, lighting, announcing, RF antennas, audio/video, interior communications and alarms, and network systems. They will operate efficiently in a team environment and demonstrate effective leadership qualities while dealing with junior personnel. Receive mentorship/guidance from Lead Technician or Task Lead for questions on any assigned tasks that are not fully understood.
Responsibilities
Execute plans of electrical installations for many different electrical and electronic systems such as lighting, announcing, 115V/440V electrical plant equipment, Uninterrupted Power Supply equipment, Audio/Video equipment, Antenna systems and many others
- Install electrical cabinets, fixtures, and equipment for various electrical systems
- Install safety and distribution components (e.g., switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
- Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks using various MIL-SPEC connectors
- Pull in cables of various lengths and sizes to accommodate system connections
- Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment
- Potentially run shipboard availabilities with a small crew.
- Install, tag and band copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval Vessels.
- Performing all duties required to layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, onboard Navy vessels.
- Troubleshooting and testing of copper cables and circuits.
- Possess skills and abilities to perform the requirements of a shipboard or airframe electrician's trade with little supervision or guidance.
- Knowing how to read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, design notices, etc.
- Knowing and understanding the use of all tools of their trade such as multi-meters, pin crimper's, soldering and expected to accomplish the more complex tasks associated with electrical installation of cable, military circular connectors, panel box and power terminations, etc.
- Familiar with basic computer skills
- Familiar with MS-Office programs including Word, Excel and Project.
Qualifications
- Must be a Marine Electrician with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement)
- Must have experience with and demonstrate proficiency with multi-pin copper connectors of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5), current certification proof desired.
- Mil Fiber Optic certification (perferred)
- Cableway inspection certification (perferred)
- Experience with leading AIT teams during shipyard availabilties (is a plus)
- Must be familiar with NAVY Standard Items
- Ability to read, understand and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Individual must have a keen attention to detail and be quality metric driven
- Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus).
- Successful completion of Navy "A" School ("C" School is a plus) or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program (recognized shipyard apprentice graduates are a plus).
- Proven experience in marine electrical systems.
- Must be able to demonstrate understanding and ability to use electrical tooling (ex: voltmeter, megohmeter etc.)
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
- Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
- Flexibility with regards to scheduling and planned support due to constant Navy movement
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
- Ability to obtain and maintain Navy CAC or DBIDS security credentials
- Ability to obtain access to shipyards, local and other various locations
