Position Description

The Lead Recruiter acts as a strategic partner, driving talent acquisition strategies to attract top internal and external talent for Atlantic Union Bank's Wholesale (Commercial) Banking positions, including organization-wide Executive Recruiting as needed, as well as other key roles. This role collaborates closely with recruiting, HR, and executive leadership to define hiring needs and execute effective search strategies.

Key responsibilities include delivering consultative recruiting services such as market research, competitive intelligence, sourcing, candidate assessment, and client advisory. The Lead Recruiter also provides leadership and guidance to several Talent Acquisition teammates, offering coaching and development to ensure high performance and alignment with organizational goals.

Position Accountabilities



  • Serve in Leadership role in Talent Acquisition, providing mentoring and coaching to recruiter(s)
  • Manage assigned recruiter(s) on the Talent Acquisition team
  • Collaborate with business unit leaders and hiring managers to define and document hiring forecasts
  • Lead strategic sessions with internal customers to understand the overall strategy, internal and external pipeline and any gaps
  • Develop comprehensive current and future search strategies and be able to clearly communicate those strategies
  • Leverage talent intelligence and candidate insights, such as labor market intelligence, to tailor strategy and inform the customer
  • Collaborate with HR business partners to identify and implement improvements to bring a unified experience to our customers and candidates
  • Leverage social media tools to inform recruiting campaigns and contribute to brand strategy
  • Generate a diverse talent pipeline, building a database of talent for the future
  • Proactively identify and recruit passive candidates, using sourcing strategies, cold calling, and networking tools
  • Manage outsourced searches and search firms to establish winning search strategies and processes
  • Continues to identify process improvements (e.g., credit guidelines, background check) that drive greater efficiencies and quality of hire
  • Lead senior-level and/or executive searches across the Bank
  • Educate hiring managers on what it means to be a true recruiting organization and developer of talent
  • Actively manage and promote the referrals program
  • Establish regular reporting on search progress, including candidate pipeline, diversity initiatives, and market competition
  • Consult with hiring managers on the assessment and evaluation of candidates
  • Conduct a thorough reference process and background checks on all finalist candidates
  • Continually stay up-to-date on current search tactics, process updates and audit procedures
  • Ensure a positive client and candidate experience throughout the hiring process
  • Flawlessly articulates the Bank's value proposition
  • Obtain market critical information on candidate experience, acquisitions, motivations, pay and talent availability
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to company, state, and federal employment guidelines
  • Ensure that the applicant tracking system (UKG) is consistently and effectively used to provide accurate recruitment metrics and compliance
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of employment laws and regulations
  • Oversee project management for TA projects; take on leadership role for assigned projects


Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Head of Talent Acquisition.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of 6-8 years' experience in Talent Acquisition; corporate experience is preferred
  • Banking and financial service experience strongly preferred, ideally with knowledge of the Wholesale (Commercial) banking function
  • Agency experience preferred
  • Executive recruiting experience preferred
  • Experience in leading a team preferred
  • At least 2+ years of experience in strategic development; building recruitment strategies
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office products: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, required
  • Proven experience working with Talent Acquisition systems and processes required
  • Project management or experience running large projects preferred
  • Proven success in building targeted diversity recruitment strategies; partnerships with diversity and community organizations
  • Preferred certifications in Sourcing and Human Resources e.g., CIR, SHRM

  • Demonstrable ability to meet tight deadlines and work in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment
  • A strong client-focus with outstanding judgment and critical thinking skills; credibility with senior-level stakeholders
  • Strong aptitude for process improvement coupled with recruiting compliance knowledge and understanding of regulatory landscape
  • Strong talent assessment skills
  • Proven continuous improvement and learning agility skills
  • Self-starter with strong project management skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Drives consensus and connects the dots amongst teams/partners
  • Thrives in a fast paced environment and able to multi-task and deal with the uncertainties of an evolving, dynamic organization


Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
