$18.24 - $32.82

Implements and oversees the decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of patient care devices in accordance with hospital policies and medical/surgical directives. Serves as a resource for the Operating Room and other nursing units regarding sterilization and instrumentation. Provides leadership in training, communication, and coordination of daily operations within the Sterile Processing Department.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Monitors instrument processing:
* Oversees cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and storage.
* Coordinates with OR for loaner trays and communicates issues.
2. Manages turnover equipment:
* Coordinates decontamination and assembly for surgical readiness.
* Reviews OR schedule and adjusts departmental needs accordingly.
3. Maintains equipment and rentals:
* Ensures compliance with inspection and recordkeeping.
* Troubleshoots and reports equipment failures.
4. Acts as liaison with the Operating Room:
* Maintains strong communication and collaboration with OR staff.
* Ensures trays are ready for upcoming surgeries.
5. Trains and orients new employees:
* Develops training programs and validates competencies.

All responsibilities are essential job functions.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Certification by a Sterile Processing association
3. Maintenance of certification with 12 education credits annually
Preferred:
1. Computer experience

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. 3 years of experience in the MRMC Sterile Processing Department
2. Demonstrated proficiency in departmental processes and equipment
Preferred:
1. Previous lead or supervisory experience in Sterile Processing

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
