Mission

Machine metal work pieces according to Engineering specifications, using blueprints, standard charts and other written instructions. Will use precision measuring instruments to check conformance to same. Will assist in improving methods, procedures and quality in the Machine Shop area, and will perform all production tasks in the Machine Shop area as deemed necessary by the Value Stream Leader or his representative.

Roles and Responsibilities



  • Learn to set up, operate and run production on assigned machining centers on a variety of parts where close tolerances are involved.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of machining methods, read blueprints and process sheets for product specifications such as: fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools to be used.
  • Learn to position and secure work piece to holding device, machine table, chuck, centers or fixtures using clamps and wrenches.
  • Ensure that quality craftsmanship is maintained at all times.
  • Work safely, keep area clean and few of hazards.
  • Make suggestions to improve methods and work to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Make weekly production goals by planning work and completing required paperwork.
  • Make suggestions to improve product, reduce costs, and assist in finding solution to production problems.
  • Perform appropriate machine maintenance procedures.
  • Operate power lift truck as necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and support environmental, health and safety program.
  • Perform other duties as called upon by Value Stream Leader or his representative.


Experience and Education



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Should have a basic mechanical background and ability to use various types of hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to work with fractions and decimals, read and understand operator manuals and other training materials.
  • Must be able to write legibly and fill out required personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to operate power lift truck safely.
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs., twist, turn, climb, stoop, kneel, push and pull loads.
  • Set up, operate, run production, troubleshoot and optimize cell productivity.
  • Understand CMM, how to interpret CMM reports and make machining adjustments to correct problems.
  • Identify correct tooling
  • Understand and edit CNC programs
  • Knowledge of cutting tools and determine when they need indexing.
  • Understand tool wear and fix premature tool wear
  • Understand feeds and speeds
  • Understand fixture offsets and tool offsets
