As one of the largest and most comprehensive public health organizations in the nation, we are at the forefront of research and innovations to improve the efficacy of public health statewide, nationally, and internationally.

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Fiscally sponsored by the Public Health Institute (PHI), the Build Healthy Places Network (BHPN) is the national center at the intersection of community development and health. Our mission is to shift the way organizations work across the community development, finance, and health sectors in order to collectively advance equity, reduce poverty, and improve health in neighborhoods across the country.

We are seeking an experienced practitioner for a part-time role as Senior Rural Fellow providing strategic advisory services and facilitation support for a pilot rural community of practice. This senior-level position requires a well-connected professional with deep rural expertise and established networks. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on rural community wellbeing while working in a flexible, part-time capacity.

The BHPN pilot, Rural Health & Economic Action Lab (RHEAL) is dedicated to supporting and strengthening multisector coalitions in rural areas to address health and economic disparities. RHEAL aims to enhance the capacity of rural coalitions to improve community infrastructure by focusing on the critical connection between health, prosperity, and economic development. It will involve selecting up to five existing coalitions for an 18-month action lab, where they will engage in activities designed to develop new strategies, tools, and resources for community-led development. The program emphasizes a bidirectional learning approach, fostering mutual growth between BHPN and the participating coalitions.

The Senior Rural Fellow will be instrumental in forging and sustaining the impactful partnerships essential for success across diverse rural spaces and will provide strategic counsel on BHPN's organizational rural strategy.

This is a part-time, 37.5% FTE position with a work schedule of 15 hours per week.

This position is fully remote, but the incumbent is expected to work at least two (2) hours within the hours of 8:30am-5:30pm, Pacific Time, on the scheduled workdays. The starting work schedule will be determined upon hire.

This is a time-limited position with an expected end date of 12/31/2026, with a possibility of extension dependent on funding availability. At PHI, a time-limited position is defined as regular employment, but with an expected end date of no more than one year from the beginning of the position. In rare circumstances, time-limited positions may be extended to a maximum total length of up to eighteen (18) months from the start of the employee's original time-limited position, or be converted to a regular position that is no longer time-limited (e.g., if the original grant/contract is extended or if additional funding becomes available).

Full salary range for this position: $120,498 to $184,813 per year based on 100% FTE. The typical hiring range for this position is from $45,186.75 (minimum) to $57,246.00 (midpoint), based on 37.5% FTE. The starting salary is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity consideration and budget availability.
