Optics Technician

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.

The Optics Technician role requires applying practical knowledge of Infantry weapons and small arms repair, rebuild, and modifications in support of Marine Expeditionary Forces. The technician will provide services to perform preventative maintenance and make repairs of ground support equipment.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Optics Technician: $65-80K

Pay commensurate with experience.

Optics Technician Responsibilities Include:

  • Inspect and repair AN/PVS-24A, AN/PEQ-15, AN/PVS-14, AN/PVS-7B, and common DOW small arms equipment.

  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair services on small arms and infantry weapons in the field and in the shop.

  • Apply practical expertise in small arms and infantry weapons repair, rebuild, modification, and related materials, equipment, facilities, and production methods.

  • Plan, assess, advise, monitor, and resolve production issues for remanufacturing, rebuild, repair, and modification of infantry weapons, weapons systems, and small arms equipment.

  • Inspect small arms during removal, disassembly, repair, alteration, overhaul, installation, and modification, including rifles, pistols, shotguns, grenade launchers, and light/heavy machine guns.

  • Review work orders to verify all required repairs, modifications, and actions are complete and properly initialed by mechanics and technicians in the correct locations.

  • Complete and sign inspection reports, certifying that vehicles, equipment, components, and workmanship meet prescribed standards, specifications, and required parameters.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key systems and equipment typically worked on include:

  • Night vision devices (e.g., AN/PVS-7, AN/PVS-14 goggles, AN/PEQ-2/15/16 weapon-mounted IR lasers/illuminators)
  • Thermal imaging sights
  • Laser designators and rangefinders
  • Fire control optics for small missiles, mortars, artillery howitzers, tanks, Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs), and other weapon platforms
  • Ground ordnance lasers, binoculars, and other sighting/aiming devices

Core technical tasks:

Work ensures military personnel have critical optical systems (for targeting, navigation, and surveillance) remain operational.

This position supports Department of Defense (DoD) production and maintenance operations and requires adherence to applicable government, industry, and corporate procedures.

Optics Technician Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • High school diploma or GED; or six months of related experience; or an equivalent mix of education and experience. Minimum of three years of relevant experience.

  • Proficient with standard and metric tools and equipment, including torque wrenches, brake tools, analyzers, circuit testers, dwell meters, and tachometers.

  • Able to read and apply manufacturer repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts, and environmental/safety manuals.

  • Subject matter expert in troubleshooting small arms equipment.

  • Able to operate material handling equipment and strictly follow safety procedures.

  • Able to interpret production control documents, handle materials efficiently, and ensure safety compliance.

  • Basic computer skills for material tracking and work order processing.

  • Maintain a T3 Security Clearance and pass a government background check.

  • Consistent use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Valid state driver's license.

  • Will work across industrial, field, and office environments.

  • Maintain clean, organized work areas.

  • Meet Quality Assurance standards and pass functionality testing for all work.
