POSITION SPECIFICS

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology, beginning August 2026. We are seeking a colleague who envisions a career where both teaching and research are equally valued.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a vibrant undergraduate research program, seek external funding, contribute to our undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and join a collaborative academic community that uniquely blends the supportive atmosphere of a small college with the resources of a world-class R1 university. An earned doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology, or a closely related field, and licensure or license eligibility in Pennsylvania are required by appointment start date. Clinical supervision towards licensure available. The position includes negotiable start-up funds.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach clinical and general undergraduate psychology courses, graduate clinical courses, and courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
  • Supervise graduate internships and research.
  • Maintain an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students.
  • Advise students and provide service to the school, college, and University.

The Psychology program offers both a BA and a BS in psychology and an MA in Clinical Psychology. Our clinical psychology training program has an emphasis on empirically supported, trauma-informed treatment. It has laboratory space, including a sound attenuating chamber, individual testing rooms, small group rooms, and observation rooms. Other resources include an on-campus childcare center and affiliation with several research centers, including the Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Community Outreach, Research, and Evaluation and the Magee Women's Research Institute of Erie. Technology and inter-library loan resources are excellent; internal funds are available for scholarly activities which may include conferences, research expenses or publication fees.
