Position Summary

The Project Executive (PX) role requires guiding, leading, and developing others to ensure that multiple projects are executed effectively and to a high level of quality. In addition, Project Executives will pursue and bring in new business and partnerships to Christman. They are expected to proactively seek coaching and corrective feedback regarding expectations and performance improvement needs in these basic functions.

Essential Job Functions

  • The Project Executive ensures that all aspects of the project, from proposal through completion, are executed in accordance with The Christman Way. They understand our core values and live them every day.

  • The PX is primarily a project leader and must be able to relate to the challenges that confront the project's Project Manager and Superintendent and have experience enough in those roles to motivate, inspire, and guide the on-site team.

  • The PX must be knowledgeable of how money moves throughout the life of a project. They must be familiar with all financial tasks, from building a fee sheet, creating cost loaded schedules and cash flow projections, to approving expenses and reimbursables. This role must understand how to maximize our return on investment and limit our risk.

  • This role is the face of Christman to the client and must be available to answer when they call and work to solve any problem they may face. They will work tirelessly to ensure the client's needs and expectations are met throughout the life of the project.

  • Equally important is the role the PX plays as the face of Christman to the project team. The PX must be an advocate for on-site staff; they are their representative with the executive leadership of the company.

  • The PX is a counselor and coach. They are directly responsible for the development and training of their project teams and must ensure each Christman partner in their care is fully supported.

  • The PX is the big picture thinker, the visionary for the project. Their job is to stay out of the weeds and ensure their teams have all the details covered. They are looking out ahead and ensuring risks are planned for and mitigated before they arise.

  • The PX is an advisor to the Regional General Manager. They meet with their clients on a regular basis and have considerable facetime with all external partners allowing them to maintain the pulse of the market and anticipate upcoming changes and trends.

Other Duties:

Business Development:

  • Work with fellow regional leaders to develop and implement a strategic plan each year, ensuring the continued success of the business unit.

  • Lead the response to client RFP's, working with marketing, project planning, and operations leaders to ensure a complete proposal is submitted, and clearly communicating Christman's approach and qualifications.

  • Build and maintain relationships that will lead to business opportunities.

Preconstruction:

  • Support project planning/estimating teams to ensure project budgets are maintained throughout design. Engage operations staff as needed to ensure continuity.

  • Develop preliminary cash flow reports, schedules, and other project documents as needed.

  • Oversee the development and issuance of all bid packages, ensuring risk is mitigated through proper buyout and contract execution.

Construction:

  • Support operations teams to ensure the project is delivered to the complete satisfaction of the client.

  • Ensure all aspects of the project are executed according to Christman's standards, including safety, risk management, scheduling, and quality.

Post-Construction/Closeout:

  • Ensure the client is satisfied with the project outcomes and the closeout package is complete.

  • Maintain a relationship with the client, continuing to be a trusted advisor to them for years to come.

Work Environment

The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site, and in an office trailer where they will monitor the project and make daily decisions about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires they wear protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and high visibility clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen sit, walk, reach, kneel, stoop, crouch, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel and to operate a computer keyboard and phone while maintaining visual acuity. The employee may be required to lift and/or carry objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work

Full time position. Extended hours and weekends may apply.

Travel

Travel to and from the construction site is required, majority of the work will be done at the site. Most of the travel will be local, but some long-distance and overnight travel may be required depending on the project.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related job field.

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of direct construction management experience including the management of individuals and teams.

  • Or equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration.

  • Must possess the ability to adapt to different personalities, management styles, and team compositions.

  • Team player with strong interpersonal, coaching, and mentoring skills.

  • Ability to function at a high level in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experienced in managing projects large in scale, size, and complexity.

  • Proven success managing multiple projects concurrently.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience managing multiple delivery methods - General Construction, Construction Management, and Design-Build.

  • Well-developed sales and business development skills with the ability to grow the business with new and existing clients.

  • Thorough knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles and techniques, as well as accounting principles.

  • Strong computer knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
