Position Summary: The Small Business Lending Officer is responsible for assisting in the growth of the Small Business Department. The Small Business department supports startups, entrepreneurs, and small businesses by offering numerous opportunities to support their business. These opportunities include the Small Business Center, the pop-up shop, speakers' series, and mentoring.

This proven relationship professional leads by example developing and increasing deposit and loan business to achieve set goals by regularly soliciting prospective customers, maintaining positive relationships with current customers, the bank's branches and departments, and identifying new sources for increased business. This role develops and retains a dedicated portfolio of profitable deposits and loans, potential business banking relationships as well as startups and entrepreneurs who have potential to become profitable.

Essential Functions:



  • Generate new business through personal connections, prospecting, and referrals. Interview prospective customers to interpret information regarding their business needs, earnings and repayment abilities.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for Bank branches when business customers, new or existing, visit a branch seeking guidance on business products, including deposits, loans, and treasury management solutions.
  • Oversee and coordinate the end-to-end process for online business credit card applications, ensuring accuracy, timely review, and seamless customer experience.
  • Promote and further improve the additional benefits such as the pop-up shop, Small Business Center and speaker series to continue to differentiate UBT for small business throughout the community. Work alongside established partners to provide value-adds to customers (education, resources, tools, and relationships) as well as work to establish new partners and offerings to better improve customer's business.
  • Deliver presentations to organizations on financial literacy and promote the Small Business department as we work to continue to grow our brand awareness in the community.
  • Provide advice and solutions to enhance and expand the client's entire banking relationship including deposits, loans, treasury management, wealth management, insurance, etc.
  • Maintain and apply a thorough understanding of the Bank's credit policy and deposit guidelines and all necessary business practices to ensure the submission of accurate and complete deposit and loan information. Work closely with underwriting teams to analyze and structure new credit requests, renewals and annual reviews.
  • Utilize experience with credit background to present sound credit decisions on loans and terms within individual and department's lending authority and loan policy procedures. Develop assigned credit portfolio quality and manage requests for credit extensions.
  • Coordinate all aspects of loan documentation and closing, including accurate entry into the bank's loan management system (nCino).
  • Educate and service new ACH set up for Small Business customers and assist existing Small Business ACH customers with changes to services.
  • Assist department in executing the Small Business Administration (SBA) loan options to offer to customers.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with other areas of the bank, with special focus on customer service, to ensure we are adequately servicing the bank's customers' financial needs.
  • Work alongside the manager on the attainment of short-term and long-term loan and deposit goals.
  • Represent the bank in the community and through active participation in organizations with expectations that some events will require attendance outside of regular hours.
  • Understand and adhere to all bank policies, laws and regulations applicable to role. Completes compliance training and follows internal processes and controls as required.
  • Report all compliance issues, violations of law or regulations in accordance with the steps defined in bank policies.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other job- related duties or special projects as assigned.


Qualifications:



  • At least three years of Small Business or business development experience required.
  • Strong prospecting experience required.
  • Proven knowledge of loan policy and procedures, commercial deposit accounts, treasury management and other bank products.
  • Business banking knowledge required.
  • Effective presentations skills required.
  • Ability to manage portfolio with guidance independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, nCino, Fiserv and in working with other bank software.
  • Valid Nebraska driver's license.

Working Environment:



  • Indoor work - not exposed to outdoor elements or hazards.
  • Some sedentary work and occasional lifting and/or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Work schedule sometimes can include evenings and weekends.
  • Some travel required.
