Job Family Description

Communications personnel develop, plan, design, maintain and implement policies and programs that inform and enhance relationships with customers, local and regional communities, the general public, government and regulatory authorities, employees, and other interested stakeholders. They deliver communications through various media formats to provide accurate and timely information to internal and external audiences. They coordinate dissemination of company communications with news or trade media contacts, through special events and tours, public speaking, or other means to reach defined audiences and meet specific program objectives.

Corporate Communications is responsible for all public affairs and issues communications, emergency response and incidents communications, video, photography and animation media services, branding and logos, internal and external websites, education outreach, protocol and event planning execution, government and congressional relations, community relations, stakeholder engagement and company philanthropy.

Discipline Description

Education Outreach roles are focused on the development and implementation of programs to enhance interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and to support improvements in education in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) and surrounding areas by using the unique resources available at the Savannah River Site. They promote learning opportunities, engage audiences within the education community, and enhance educational outcomes within the region and in surrounding regions. Professionals in these roles develop and implement outreach programs, initiatives, and partnerships to support STEM-related academic success, and contribute to future workforce development.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Coordinate and administer existing SRS educational outreach programs. Identify, develop, and administer new initiatives and programs in support of the DOE/NNSA mission to improve education. Oversee and coordinate national competition programs. Develop and implement educational outreach partnerships with schools, universities, technical colleges, and industry, that serve as a pipeline for future skilled workers.

Collects and prepares information for DOE/NNSA concerning educational program impact reviews at the local and headquarters levels. Researches and evaluates existing education outreach programs at other sites (DOE/NNSA and non-DOE) for use at SRS>Develops education outreach programs which serve to improve the skills of students and teachers. Initiates contacts and collaborates with personnel from the USC-Aiken, Ruth Patrick Science Center, Aiken Technical College, etc. to identify existing programs and resources which can be leveraged to provide cost effective solutions to education problems. Administers one or more of the following education outreach programs, including, but not limited to: Teacher workshops, Mini-Grants Program, DOE Regional Science Bowl, and the Education Fair. Establishes and implements the process to gather, coordinate, and maintain a system for SRS employee volunteers in support of education outreach programs. Serves as a representative on committees and task teams as part of educational outreach efforts. Evaluates education outreach programs based on DOE/NNSA criteria/guidelines by using formative and summative approaches.

* Solicit and Engage volunteers and provide guidance for STEM activities in the community
* Support all programs as a team player
* Build relations with the education community, site volunteers, community leaders

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

The preferred candidate will have demonstrated coordination of large group events that employ organizational and execution skills.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a science field or an education degree teaching science classes.

Knowledge in technology is a plus.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
