Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Transportation Economics Specialist for the School of Engineering. The role will support the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (
CAIT) in advancing its mission through transportation system planning, infrastructure economic impact assessments, and preparation of business cases to guide strategic transportation investments. Active engagement with federal, state, and local agencies will be an integral part of the work, fostering partnerships that enhance the visibility, relevance, and effectiveness of the center's programs. Through these efforts, the role will help establish a solid foundation for evidence-based planning, ensure the center remains responsive to evolving transportation challenges, and support initiatives that deliver measurable benefits to communities and stakeholders.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Performs quantitative and qualitative assessments of transportation systems and infrastructure investments.
- Evaluates the economic impacts of projects to inform decision-making and strategic investments.
- Develops business cases and cost-benefit analyses that support evidence-based planning and funding justification.
- Collaborates with center leadership to design and implement research and development plans that advance institutional goals.
- Identifies and analyze emerging trends, technologies, and policies shaping the transportation industry.
- Contributes to reports, publications, and presentations that strengthen the center's research portfolio and visibility.
- Engages with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as academic and industry partners, to support collaborative initiatives.
- Represents the center in discussions and meetings that enhance the relevance, credibility, and impact of its programs.
- Helps build a foundation for evidence-based collaboration that addresses evolving transportation challenges and benefits communities.

The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree in Economics, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field and 10 years of experience in transportation systems analysis, infrastructure investment evaluation, or related fields.

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
