Position Summary The Activities and Operations Specialist will work alongside a team of staff that overlap the operations and activities departments to help maintain camp as well as to offer pristine activity locations with high quality facilitation. Essential Functions
- Contribute to a positive and uplifting team culture that aligns with The Salvation Army's overall mission and vision for Pine Summit Camp.
- Facilitate all activities for groups with exceptional service and catering facilitation to meet group needs when applicable. Leading activities include but is not limited to, ziplines, climbing tower, high ropes, team building, archery, paintball, and lifeguarding.
- Assist in routine activity areas and equipment inspections to ensure the highest standards are being met according to local regulations, ACA standards, and TSA policies.
- Regularly clean and maintain activity areas and equipment for activities such as campfire circles, pool, gymnasium, outdoor activity areas, a playground, soccer field, and challenge course elements utilizing equipment like a snow shovel, snow blower, rake, leaf blower, and general construction tools.
- Possess the strength and stamina to remain alert, friendly, courteous, and patient for the duration of the staff member's time on the job.
- Assist in camp property and facilities maintenance and upkeep.
- Operations related tasks as directed by the Assistant Camp Director, including but not limited to the following:
- Trash Runs, clean and set-up rooms, move furniture & sound equipment.
- Assist in housekeeping to clean camp lodging for guest group usage.
- Landscaping - mowing lawns, leaf blowing, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc...
- Minor repairs - plumbing, building, equipment, facilities
- Hosting - This position will periodically host groups. This may include monitoring and responding to group needs, running the camp store, monitoring and cleaning property, filling in with kitchen duties, and properly shutting down camp after a group's departure.
Working Conditions Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. BA preferred or a combination of education, training and experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a valid CA driver's license.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities, camper and staff behavior.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis as needed to perform necessary duties.
- Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing or walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Possess (or able to obtain in the first 6 months) certifications in lifeguarding and level 2 challenge course facilitator.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure.
- Must have ability to work well independently in a detailed, professional and courteous manner.
- Combination of education, training and experience in the camping industry.
- Friendly and personable. Excellent customer service skills required.
- A team player; must work well with others.
- Must have good communication skills, and pay close attention to detail.
- Word processing experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel are especially valuable.
