Job Duties:
Serve as theSSSSTEMAcademic Advisor to a caseload ofapproximately60-70students who are members of the UW Oshkosh Student Support Services (SSS) STEM program.The SSSSTEMprogram serves120UW Oshkosh students annually.SSSSTEMstudents are first-generation college (parents have not earned a baccalaureate degree) students and/or students whose family income meets federally established guidelines.Students with a documenteddisability may also be served in the program.The goal of SSSSTEMis to increase the college persistence and graduation rates of the students it serves.SSSSTEMis one of the U.S. Department of Education funded TRIO programs. During the academic year, evening hours on a weekly basis may be required.Evening hours in the summer and weekend hours during both the academic year and summer on an occasional basis are required.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Provide support for an assigned caseload of student participants in the areas of academic advising, life skills development, student success development, career planning, financial literacy, and financial aid and scholarshipassistance. Encourage students toparticipatefully in the college experience including study abroad, internship opportunities and consideration of graduate school
Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Experience working with educational programs specifically with marginalized, underrepresented student populations. Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal,writtenand oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling, higher education, ora relatedfield. Advising or counseling experience. Experience supporting the needs of first-generation, income eligible students. Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with Student Support Services (SSS) and/or other TRIO programs.
