Registered Nurse- Definitive Observation Unit

We are seeking a Definitive Observation Unit Registered Nurse (DOU RN), also referred to as an Observation Unit Nurse, Acute Observation Registered Nurse or DOU RN. The DOU RN provides specialized nursing care to patients who require short-term observation, typically ranging from several hours up to 24-48 hours. Their role focuses on closely monitoring patients with acute but stable conditions to determine if they need full hospital admission or can be safely discharged.

Hours: 12-hour shifts - 7:00pm to 7:00am

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

• Conduct frequent assessments of patients' vital signs, symptoms, and overall condition to detect any changes or complications

• Administer medications and treatments as ordered, ensuring timely and accurate delivery

• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare team members to implement and update individualized care plans

• Educate patients and families about their condition, treatment plan, and discharge instructions

• Document patient care, clinical observations, and communication accurately in the medical record

• Coordinate diagnostic tests and procedures and monitoring results to support clinical decision-making

• Ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients during their observation stay

• Facilitate timely transitions of care, whether discharge or admission to an inpatient unit

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid state RN License.
2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current preferred.
4. Previous Acute Care hospital experience preferred.
5. Ventilator Management experience preferred.
6. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
