About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Global Supply Manager to lead the strategic material management for our Electric Controller Unit (ECU), focusing on PCBA components and complex electronics. This critical role will be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective availability of materials throughout the entire product lifecycle, from Quick Turn prototypes to New Product Introduction (NPI) and Mass Production (MP). The successful candidate will be a proactive problem solver adept at navigating complex supply chains, mitigating risks, and fostering strong relationships with suppliers and Contract Manufacturers (CMs). As a Senior Global Supply Manager, you will take the lead in making sure Rivian can meet its cost targets, suppliers deliver to our aggressive timelines, and parts are received at the highest level of quality, owning the commercial aspects and supply chain execution from start to finish. This position is based onsite in Palo Alto, California and reports to the Senior Manager of Global Supply Management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Material Readiness and Program Execution: Serve as the primary material point of contact for ECU components, collaborating across Engineering and Operations to own the Clear to Build (CTB) process for all Quick Turn, NPI, and Mass Production builds, ensuring on-time material availability.
  • Drive Strategic Sourcing and Cost Management: Lead the RFI/RFQ/RFP strategic sourcing process, perform detailed financial analysis of quotes, and drive complex commercial negotiations to secure capacity, favorable terms, and achieve aggressive cost reduction targets.
  • Proactively Manage Supply Chain Risk: Identify, report on, and implement robust mitigation plans for potential supply risks (e.g., single source, long lead times), including managing Risk Buy decisions for critical long-lead-time components.
  • Oversee Inventory and Financial Efficiency: Manage inventory levels at Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to minimize Excess and Obsolete (E&O) material while ensuring adequate supply and reviewing Engineering, Design & Development (ED&D) costs for best-in-class value.
  • Ensure Component Lifecycle Stability: Partner with Engineering on component obsolescence management and End-of-Life (EOL) planning to maintain the long-term viability of ECU designs
  • Manage Supplier Relationship and Performance: Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships, leading all contractual negotiations (NDAs, PSAs, T&Cs) and managing performance against key supply chain and quality metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or Engineering required

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in material program management, strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum 3+ years of direct experience with Electronics Control Units (ECUs) or complex PCBA electronic assemblies, preferably within the Automotive (EV a strong plus) or High-Tech industries.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and knowledge, both technical and commercial, managing business relationships with large suppliers in an Automotive, Electronics or high-volume manufacturing business.

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing materials across the entire product lifecycle: Quick Turn, NPI, and Mass Production.

  • Proven experience with "Risk Buy" strategies and execution and developing/implementing alternative sourcing solutions.

  • Experience working with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) in Asia, Europe and North America.

  • Strong analytical ability to break down complex problems and data sets to derive meaningful, actionable results.

  • Ability to understand Engineering and Design direction and provide focused supply-chain solutions accordingly.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills with a high level of integrity and desire to own one's role.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred)

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

  • Certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., CSCP, CPIM) is a plus.
