About the Role

As a user experience/user interface (UX/UI) designer in the Technology Procurement and Implementation Services (TPIS) practice area, you will collaborate with team members to design and build user-centered digital products that improve experience for clients and the communities they serve. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, project managers, and business stakeholders to turn complex requirements into intuitive, accessible and engaging interfaces. Serving as a UX/UI designer, your day-to-day role as a NYSTEC consultant will include participating in client meetings and working closely with and in collaboration with the business analysis team in designing various levels of wireframes to support eliciting to-be requirements for system modernization or website design efforts for clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining responsive web and/or mobile interfaces that align with client's design specifics and standards.
  • Support UX research activities, including usability testing, user interviews, and accessibility reviews.
  • Collaborate with senior team members to implement UX/UI best practices and to optimize user flows.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, sprint planning, and code reviews, as needed.
  • Continuously learn emerging tools and methods that enhance usability and performance.
  • Be proactive in identifying risks and sharing with the internal team, as appropriate.
  • Be flexible to work on ad hoc design activities within a short span of time.


About you:
Required Qualifications

  • Foundational understanding of UX principles and responsive web design.
  • Clear understanding of user stories and the process for eliciting business requirements for designing systems.
  • Proficient in using Figma.
  • Familiarity with Balsamiq, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills and multi-tasking.
  • Commitment to NYSTEC's values of collaboration, integrity, and innovation.
  • Motivated and willing to work on a collaborative, cross-functional team.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with front-end development (Hypertext Markup Language 5 [HTML5], Cascading Style Sheets Level 3 [CSS3], JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with low-code platforms.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and help support other team members within your capacity.


Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree and three years of related experience in UX/UI designing experience.
  • An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.



The target base salary for this position is $73,476.00 to $95,518.00 per year. When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including skill set, experience, location, and job-related qualifications.
