About this unit The Prince Surgical Critical Care Unit is a 22-bed intensive care unit in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. The surgical ICU specializes in the care of critically ill trauma and surgical patients. The trauma population includes geriatric rib fractures, traumatic brain injury, multi-trauma requiring critical care needs, trauma surgery, and the critical care adult burn population. The surgical population primarily includes emergency general surgery, surgical oncology, and vascular surgery with critical care needs. Staff in the surgical ICU also provide care to medical and neuro critically ill patients. We provide competent care to patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining titratable medications, and assist with bedside procedures including preparation of the sterile field for tracheostomies, central line placement, and burn dressing changes. The surgical ICU is a fast-paced unit that relies heavily on teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach with not only provider teams, but ancillary staff to deliver exceptional care. This RN Supervisor, working alongside the RN Manager, will lead a team of RNs and NTs. The schedule comes with some flexibility, usually 2x12, Charge RN, and 2x8. Scope of work Assumes shift accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing service/ unit of the hospital. Some service lines may require the ability to be available for on-call to better support the nursing service/unit. Additionally, Inpatient Supervisors may be required to fill-in for the hospital supervisor as needed. Key responsibilities include assisting with the following: clinical support, unit-based goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, performance improvement, performance correction, and coaching and mentoring.
