The Supply Chain Operations Process Improvement Specialist is responsible for analyzing, designing, and optimizing supply chain processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service levels. This role ensures that procurement, logistics, inventory, and distribution processes are streamlined and aligned with business objectives.

Essential Job Statements

Operational Management:

  • Evaluate and improve end-to-end supply chain processes including procurement, warehousing, transportation, and order fulfillment.

  • Oversight of the Constrained Item Review and Action Team - manage item health tracker and approved product substitutes in the ERP

  • Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in supply chain workflows and implement corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., procurement, logistics, IT, finance) to ensure process alignment and integration.

  • Develop and maintain process documentation, SOPs, and workflow diagrams.

  • Monitor supply chain KPIs (e.g., inventory turnover, order accuracy, delivery lead time) and report on performance.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies.

  • Support digital transformation and automation efforts within the supply chain.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department.

  • Accepts alternate assignments, as required.

Employment Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.

Preferred Education:

Combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Licensure/Certification Required:N/A

Licensure/Certification Preferred:Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience

3-5 years of experience in supply chain operations or process improvement.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in supply chain software (e.g., Workday, SAP, Oracle, JDA) and process mapping tools.

Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement frameworks.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Previous work experience in a JIT inventory program.

Previous experience using a personal computer with Microsoft office applications and automated inventory/tracking system.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

Experience with supply chain analytics and data visualization tools.

Project management certification (e.g., PMP).

Familiarity with sustainability and risk management in supply chain operations.

Working Conditions

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.

General office environment.

Prolonged periods of working alone.
