Residential Counselor

Part Time (16 hours): Saturdays and Sundays 4pm-12am

We have an opening for an individual to work in our Young Adult Shelter Staff program. Residential Counselors are responsible for working closely with young adult (ages 18-24) clients in a congregate emergency residential shelter site, to provide life skills support to individuals who are staying at the shelter. This position also provides oversight of site operations, which includes enforcing safety measures, program rules, and expectations using a trauma-informed and client centered approach. Other responsibilities include: assisting with screening, intake activities and orientation of new clients into the shelter program; providing guidance and information to clients regarding the daily activity schedule, house rules and policies; overseeing security and safety; completing housekeeping duties; ensuring daily chores are completed, and providing emergency crisis management to individuals.

Qualifications include:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year previous experience working with individuals in need of social services (preferably low income individuals) strongly preferred
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent crisis management skills
  • Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Young Adult population experience a plus
  • Good attention to detail
  • Bilingual skills preferred
