Shop Floor Supervisor


Position Profile:

The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for the supervision of all machine operations and overall production, maintenance, quality, and other production-related activities. This role is responsible for all work orders that flow in and out of the Machine Shop. The Machine Shop Manager works closely with the Shop Leads to ensure all equipment, machines, fixtures, and tools are in good and proper working order. This role is responsible for employee safety, quality performance, and attainment of all customer/company schedules productivity and cost effectiveness.

Responsibilities:


Manage Manufacturing Engineering Workload


  • Assure methodizing is complete according to due date and in a timely manner- (metrics)
  • Plan for tooling and gages


Materialize new jobs


  • Prove out new programs on shop floor with machinists
  • Manage department; must have physical presence on shop floor throughout the day to address issues and assess productivity
  • Review existing jobs. Promote continuous improvement to assure programs are optimized.



Schedule daily work flow through department


  • Meet with department lead daily to review schedule
  • Work on bottlenecks
  • Hold day end follow-up meeting with department lead to review status
  • Review workload to determine if overtime is needed. Weekend overtime must be approved by COB on Wednesdays


Support quality functions


  • Plan/support first piece inspection for each operation
  • Review job prior to final inspection submittal
  • Write, submit, resolve NCR's


Assure Tooling is ready and available for each operation

Generate monthly department metrics


  • Quality
  • Actual vs. standard hours
  • Utilization
  • Overtime


Assure proper staffing for department


  • Daily Attendance
  • Vacation/sick time scheduling
  • Quarterly/Annual employee reviews within department
  • Schedule overtime
  • Cross-train within department to improve workflow
  • Set up training schedule to assure Marotta University is completed by all shop floor personnel
  • Promote team building


Attend daily meetings with department manager to discuss shop status, issues, etc. ( Run Daily Stand ups)



Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • Associates degree in a technical field or a certification from a technical school
  • 10+ years' relevant experience in machine shop environment (aerospace or defense)
  • 3+ years' demonstrated experience supervising 10 or more CNC and manual machinists
  • Proficient in the operation of CNC and manual machine shop equipment
  • Strong experience in producing very high tolerance parts
  • Experience in Lean/Cellular manufacturing practices
  • Familiar with AS9100 and ISO standards
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as any and all outside agents, including but not limited to; vendors, suppliers, customers, potential job candidates, etc.
  • Computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
  • Must be a US Citizen



Work Environment:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Local and non-local travel is required for this position (15-20%)



Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • The employee is frequently required to sit at length, stand, walk, and move about the facility.
  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary

Pay Range: $92,958-$128,922
